I have done some rebreather diving with both.

With a pendulum, with one breathing tube, and in front, it is easier to keep track of where breathing tubes are when there are objects about; I must remember to breathe deep to change the gas in the deadspace in the fullface mask (if used) and breathing tube.

With a loop, I can breathe naturally.

With both, I must keep on breathing, to keep gas flowing over the absorbent.

    Cool Re: Lifejacket to rebreather

I came up with the idea of a simple scrubber to convert basically anything from a plastic bag to a BC or inflatable life jacket to a pendulum rebreather. Idea was a really short connection between mouthpiece to a 80mm diameter axial scrubber about 200mm long. Bottom connects directly to the counter lung whatever that might be. A connector at the top connects to a tank and mechanism from a, wait for it... Soda Stream. Those cute little streamlined tanks hold 500ml so at 150 bar that's 75l O2. or about enough for 45 - 60 min. The O2 (CO2) add mechanism is built right in.
Got most of the bits aroundf somewhere, if I find them I'll post a pic if anyone is interested enough.

    Cheers,

    Paua

That second conversion was made in 2001, see http://cedu2.tripod.com/fenzy.htm
