Yes. Slow descents and ascents are best practices for all diving.

Re: Xplorer Sport Rebreather from Hollis

    G'day Chauncey,

I gather the prepacked Sofnolime cartridge is specific (read different from the Poseidon) to the EXplorer to accommodate the TPM?

and what cylinder will it be running? That looks like a steel of 4 or 5 litre. or will it be adaptable/flexible in this configuration to allow for travelling diver some leeway and or regional cylinder standards?

    cheers Jason

So let me get this straight... it has a 2 hour scrubber?
Just about any muppet can get an hour out of an AL80.
So if they are on a dive boat... its a double dive... small boat (like in aus)
they are limited to 2 1 hour dives.
Or they could save the cash and effort of all the setup this thing will requre and just stay with AL80s?
Granted there is always other reasons , photography or not liking bubbles, but what the Hell is the use of dynamic PPo2 if the scrubber wont even keep up with the adjusted NDLs having it will provide?

I'd like to be wrong, but I'd be inclined to think that a rebreather like this combined with the padi business model would entice quite a few people to rebreathers that really don't belong on them. So from that standpoint limiting the scrubber to 2 hours seems quite prudent. It would seem quite tricky to forget when you last changed it if it's spent every 2 dives.

It has a 2 hour scrubber according to the stringent testing. This should tell you something.....

The diver can set a high PPO2 limit and a low PPO2 limit. Lets say these are set to 1.30 and 0.50.

Diving a 40% Nitrox with a MOD of 100 fsw where the PPO2 will spike at 1.60.

On descent the ADV will maintain loop compliant volume. On reaching the bottom @ 100 fsw the PPO2 could be as high as 1.60. As the diver consumes the oxygen the PPO2 drops to 1.30 and the ESR will add gas to maintain that PPO2, and the loop control valve will vent excess gas by bubbling at 16mb. High PPO2 extends the divers range by reducing exposure to nitrogen.

The HUD flashes Blue/Green = look at the handset which says go to a shallower depth.

While ascending to a shallow reef at 30 fsw the rig vents through the loop control valve or the 40mb over pressure relief valve and the ESR adds gas to maintain appropriate PPO2. (a gradient from 1.30 to 0.50 matching the depth reduction) (this is a very intelligent rig)

At 30 fsw the ESR drops the PPO2 to 0.50, extending the range of the gas.

When the diver ascends to the surface the ESR injects gas to maintain the PPO2 within safe limits.
