. . . Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds and shall find me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.

As socially great as the medical system philosoply is here in Canada, the billing system implemented is less than desirable; it actually creates mediocre doctors and less than mediocre specialist.

I did not realize this until I met up with an old university friend who is now head of kidney and liver transplants at Harvard. He gave me a rundown of how the system works here (well, in BC at least).

Recently, my friend here in ON was so sick and she went to a walk-in clinic and the doctor prescribed her an antibiotic dosage that was equivalent to a complete c-pack for each dose for her body weight; effectively poisoning her. Needless to say she ended up in emergency, but she's OK now, luckily.

But, I love this country and had the return after travelling around the world for 15 years and have some Canadian friends who have sworn never to return to Canada. There are many worse places.

I am a doc and hope to never need one!!! There are bad ones EVERYWHERE!!! Sorry to be so negative, but......there are a lot of "bad apples, pears, peaches, and peanuts out there". Oh, just because your doc is nice does not make him/her competent!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Re: .... what just happened?

Actually, my physician redefines professionalism and quality health care. Yes, she has the standard size 14 XXX brain but when it comes to putting care, into health care we are talking the gold standard.

In general, regardless of country, as long as they keep making doctors out of human beings, people will have an experience or know of a situation were things went sideways in treatment.

If humour is the best medicine, we are all entitled to equal care under the law here. That means everyone else in Canada has a right to nasty drug reaction I guess.

Sticking the mess on the Dr. on this is a low blow, a cheep shot. My medical records, and the duration of time I was on this medication became obscured during the time my Dr. retired and the time it took to find a new Dr.

The cracks through which a patient might fall through here are different than those in other countries. The social contract is also different. It does not matter the time of year, lack of power, in a weather emergency you are expected to be able to fend for yourself for three days. You are expected to be responsible.

Five hundred channels of garbage arrive via satellite to my tv every day, CBC, ABC, BBC CIA etc. Every day I watch commercials regarding the drug I was prescribed and they include the cautionary footnote regarding the side effects I have mentioned. It is not the Drs fault it the patient messed up.

The ability to overcome adversity is the true measure of character. I am generally known as quite a character as are a great many divers on this forum.

My original point, collectively, when we look at human error accident, understanding the nature of the human part is at times difficult. If this happened in a pool I am not sure I would have survived. I would have been a human error, accident. In accordance with your beliefs, it might be statistically a remote occurrence, or destiny playing a hand. I think some diving accidents in this group are a human error, diver no fault due to unknown circumstances.
