I will post when it airs for you to laugh at the conversation if you want. It will come down to me just buying it if my wife doesn't agree to let me set up a savings plan. Whats worse, $500 a month or one lump sum loss of $10,000? I think i'm going to eventually have to ask for forgiveness when i decide to say F*&# it...

Frankly you should buy a used CCR. People are suffering from the economy and many cases need the $$$'s for more important life needs. Your chance to get a great deal that most likely will not be available in a year or two. Get over not having a new shiny CCR and pay less then 50% for a used one. All my three CCR's have been used.

No charge for this great advice and you are approved.

haha, thank you for the advice and I plan to take it. Looking at my finances now it would make buying a used rebreather difficult this year. I've read a lot about the manual verses electronic debate and have seen more than a few times that not only would i save by going the manual route but also it would better prepare me to be a safe CCR diver. Just missed out on a nice Meg that sold for a great price.
Most of my gear is used except for my regs.
    Thanks John

Re: Suze Orman: "Can I afford it?" (a rebreather story)

I did the same thing this past spring. Having gone all out with diving from the get go, Drysuit before certified and straight to a technical approach, setup and of course charter after charter. My wife enjoyes the weekends away and while Im on the boat she hits the local shops and occasionally the Casino here and there. She has always supported me. She allowed me to buy my all my gear, being its really the only sport I do, no golf or hockey etc kind of guy. When I talked about getting into a rebreather, we talked about the cost of gas mixes per weekend, usually 200.00 or more not including boat fees etc. I usually do average of 100- 120 dives a year so it all adds up. Even if have of those dives were all mixes stages, deco...it adds up and fast. She said all would be fine, if I was willing to sell off some of the OC gear to help make up the funds. A decent compromise I thought, and all RB divers I had talked to said, your not going to want to go back to OC once you cross over to the darkl side!..they were right. I went with a great used unit and got a sweet deal, raised almost the whole price selling off my doubles, regs and odds n ends I wouldnt need. It worked out well in the end. I still have my stages, suits argon bottles and a nice Evolution to dive with. On my birthday in Aug I finished my last of the MOD 2 dives and now brother I am in heaven!. I share in your dream and quest. Just a few words from someone who has been there, and just starting out as well. Good luck on the funds, amazing what one will; cut back on to get to that goal~...

    SHEESH!

This thread along with the topic is ridiculous, put on your big boy pants and either pony up or don't.....make sure though if you choose not to that you monitor her spending too. If you are not allowed anything than neither is she.....vagina or not!!!!

I guess this thread is a little nuts. haven't heard yet when it will air on the show. Really want to reduce financial strain for the fam. I've got a plan and have gotten a lot of good advice since I opened the thread so I appreciate all the help.

LOL...good luck with that! It's called life, you think you are the only one with financial strain? If you are focussing on this and getting diarrhea than perhaps a rebreather is not in your future. Enough wasted bandwidth on this. Thread closed!
