    Kona HI Diving

    Hi Everybody!

We just got back from Kona, HI and although we really wanted to bring our units, we decided to check out the logistics first.

We found a rebreather friendly dive boat from the Kona Diving Company (konadivingcompany.com). The shop is currently not equipped for rebreather needs, but they are a friendly bunch overall and will try to be accommodating. Kerry Key the owner is super nice. Oh, there is currently no rebreather diving shop in Kona, but don't despair!

We met Gerard Newman on the boat. He can fill O2, has a booster, and rents bail-outs! He does not rent steel cylinders for the units, but he uses alu 19s. He recommends the sorb to be shipped in advance since there is really non readily available on the big island. You might want to call Kerry at Kona Diving Company if you need a local address to ship the sorb to.

Gerard's website is WWW.Opua.Org for more information and his email is gkn@opua.org.

So Aloha to you all and Mahalo to the divers we met in Kona

    Claudia

Oh, one more thing! This is less rebreather dive related than just pure magic underwater. Anybody going to Kona, you absolutely have to do the Manta Ray Night Dive!!!!!! Diving open circuit and blowing your bubbles at the bellies of those magnificant creatures, does not seem to bother them a bit.

What you get is a magical light and creature show that is totally unrehearsed but learned behavior.

Martina Wing is an videographer whose strobes is adding to the plankton these mantas love to eat. For some interesting information visit Dive with Manta Rays in Kona Hawaii or info@mantarayshawaii.com.

    It was spectacular!!
