These are the only aircraft carriers that you can dive.
Well, there is also Graf Zeppelin:
    And the Hermes

Re: BIKINI ATOLL 12-25 Aug 2011

August 2011 Trip is totally full now.

There is a chance that I might run another trip this year on the 24 Sept to the 6th Oct. This will only take place if I get more interest. I already have 2 people on standby for this trip so if you want to come, then let me know as soon as. Its a little late in the day to be starting from scratch for a trip of this magnitude, but if there is interest out there this year then we will do it!!!!

I should also have dates for 2012/13 in a few days too.

    regards

Re: BIKINI ATOLL 2012 and 13

I have some excellent news. I have finally secured dates for 2012 and 13 for my Bikini trips.

I really recommend that you have a good read of the information and all the risks that go with such a trip.

I dont want to scare you off, but with trips like this it is really important to really understand the magnitude of such a trip. This is not for everyone and with the sheer isolation of where we are, you really need to make an informed decision on whether you want to come or not.

Make no mistake Bikini will destroy any childhood dreams you had of diving here. Sometimes people are disappointed when they have heard so much about a place and when they finally get to dive it - are simply disappointed! THIS WILL NOT HAPPEN!!!! It is simply mind blowing and each and every dive is consistently off the scales in terms of what to expect in a wreck dive!!!! That is no bullshit!! It has taken me 23 years in my diving career to get here and it has been well worth the wait!

The biggest thing is to understand that we will be onboard a 23m vessel for 13 days out at sea. 25-30 hours away from the nearest help which is an American Missile Testing Base so they arent thrilled that we are going through there in the slightest. There is an Airfield in Bikini where turbo propped planes can land. This will be the only immediate access we have to the outside world if it all turns to custard!

As a precaution I have a policy of taking a Hyperbaric Physician onboard all my "Lust for Rust" diving Excursions. This is only to ensure that the highest level of safety is ensured just in case we have a diving emergency. There is a newly refurbished twin lock 48" Hyperbaric chamber onboard but DAN wont endorse the chamber (yet) so if we ring DAN incase of an incident they cant offer advice on treatment onboard, only to offer evac to the nearest chamber which could be Honalulu or Truk, which is ages away. So with that we have a fully kitted out emergency medical kit to cater for most diving medical emergencies and a world class Hyperbaric Physician who will look after medical operations. Again, this has to be your decision to be treated and if you prefer to be air evacuated then we will activate this. Not a problem. This is why it is mandatory that you have DAN master insurance for this reason.

We specialise in catering for Rebreather divers. Gas, sorb, breather tanks, stage tanks, boosters, Helium etc but also have 10 sets of twin isolated manifolded twin tanks. So what ever way you like to dive, we can accommodate you! The only difference will be your gas bill at the end of the day!!! ALSO I will have scooters onboard too.

I have full details of the FAQ on these trips on this link Bikini Atoll wreck diving just scroll down and click on the FAQ link.

Now what you need to take into account is these dates are ex Kwajalein. Here is an excerpt from the attachment with regards to getting to Kwaj and allowing time to get there! we really need to get this right as the boat cant wait for people that get in three days later!!! The best thing to do also is contact me when you commit to the trip and I will confirm with you the flights to connect onto.

How do we get to Kwajalein?

The best thing to do is do a google search for Kwajalein and find exactly where it is. There are 2 ways to get to Kwaj. One is through Guam heading East and the other is heading west from Honalulu. Normally if you are coming from the US then you will probably want to come via Honalulu. If you are coming from Ozz, and most of Europe then the Guam option might work best for you. Continental Airlines is the only flight operator that works the Marshal Island routes.

    Flying in via Guam

If you are coming from England, Ireland, Europe then probably the best route would be Heathrow - Narita in Japan - GUAM and onto Kwaj. You also have Air Korea which offers great deals in flights too flying via Seoul. Then from Guam to Kwajalein (7:15hrs) you will stop three times (Guam-Truk-Pohnpei-Kosrae-kwaj)
Flights will come in on a Friday before the official trip starts, this is ok and we have planned for this. If you come from this end you will get into Kwaj at 18:45. This is ok, if there arent any clients from the last trip onboard then you can stay on the vessel

Continental are great with luggage allowance at 2 x 23kg bags with an additonal 23kg for $30us!!!! Not bad hah!!

    Flying in via Honalulu

Flying from Honalulu has its advantages as there are only 1 stop (Majuro) taking 6:55hrs to Kwaj. It is just too far to go across the entire US coming from the UK, but great if you are coming from Continental US. Your flight will only come in on the Saturday at 10:25. So once you clear customs and board the boat we will head off.
The guys who came via Guam will already be onboard from the day before.

I think either way its going to be a long trip so just embrace it, enjoy the plane food and dream of soon being in Bikini!!!

If you are in a position to make a booking email me for a booking form petemes@ihug.co.nz.

If you have ANY Queries or questions please let me know. We can talk on Skype (petemes) or I can call you on a land line, Just let me know.

    Kindest regards and safe diving
