This must be a mistake. It implies that you were only getting 8 hours of battery life. Surely you must be getting 80 or more.

That is only a problem for organizations without supply chain management. As you know, Joe, electronics go "end of life" all the time and the world doesn't come to a crashing halt. Since we are a large user we had lots of warning. We have thousands in stock and we will continue to have shipments arrive for another year or so.

We are more concerned about having excess stock when the next generation of OLED displays hits the market.

I agree you dont have a problem for multiple reasons, first you have a very large inventory and probably have more available inventory than you can use.. The blue oled failure concerns multimedia devices which is the primary market, for many of these devices 20k hours woun't cut it as the decay becomes noticable well before then, but then again its still multiple years of use (also temp will impact life as well)..

The 20k hour is an extimate of time based on factors trying to acclerate failure... obviously there barely been enough time for a device on 24/7 to reach that number, but there have been confirmed failures (but no where as bad as the previous oled generation)..

for a DC the blue "failure" is not a concern, just the general availablity without commiting to lot of parts.. Even if the BLUE OLED fails prematurely, you mostly use RED and GREEN so its a non issue there.

the EOL parts will still be made for anyone with a contract, no new vendors were being taken on without a contract.. If you called the various sales reps back in aug/sept they all told you that their products were EOL and tried to get you to order 3k or more displays..

Kevin did not want a part that he had to comit to having to buy several years of product, he wanted to be able to change it if/when something better becomes available... I cant disagree with him there as the number of unit its sold for CCR electronics would be alot less than if it were a standalone unit..

From a user's standpoint I would have no issue buying, recommending or using a product with an oled display, but from a manufacturer;s standpoint I would have to weigh all the factors especially how much inventory I have to carry and what my backup options are in the long run..

It comes down to a pure business decision, will using one display over another generate more sales, and if so is the cost justifyable..

no it wasnt a typo.. they didnt die at 8 hrs but we did see a voltage drop,, one hadset did go 2 days on a single battery.. we were using rechargeable cells - only 900ma so running the controller with the solenoid frequently firing, and constantly playing with the new diva which has a 5W led (wasnt full brightness but IMHO probably the brightness of a 1W led) but that was being activated on a critical alert (very high or very low po2) and a vibrator, it performed well.. bench test have shown that full time display plus full time solenoid firing, plus full time alert was yielding 8+ hours of use with rechargeable cells.. 3.6v safts would yield much longer run times..

also demoing things like the GPS take up power that normally would not be used..

the point I'm trying to make is that the display had little impact on the life it was all the other things that were being used..
