    One small correction:

    Pistols do fire under water.

With a Glock, which is what the dummy-pistol looked like, it will even reload under water. (Tried and tested)

Yeah but your glock might take your hand off if you shoot it UW without modification

I do not think you have to drill and mod the new ones I think they are water capable right out of the box now. When they first cam out you had to do a little work to get them to fire with consistency.

Big thanks to Curt and Jeff for the video interview! What a great way to get the news out especially if you missed the show.

I am already looking forward to the 2011 DEMA in Orlando...see you there.

    Nope.

Every 3rd round or so would not auto-load. And that was with the 1st gen Glock 17

This was only 9mm, though, with something bigger I would be a bit more careful (I knew it had been done with the 9mm, there was even an article in a Norwegian diving magazine)

Still, make sure your barrel does not contain airbubbles when you do it, as bubbles tend to let the bullet accellerate fast, and then suddenly decellerate, leading to barrel bulges. Also firing it deeper than 5m is supposedly unpleasant.

This part of the thread seems pretty laughable. Great in the movies to shoot underwater etc but max effective range of a typical bullet in the water is very short, the Russians came up with a great UW weapon based on the AK that shot a 7.62mm round that was basically a 4” dart but effective range of that was still fairly short. But beyond all that if your fighting other divers you’ve already lost the game because if you are the defender it makes more sense to just drop a grenade or two over the side then clean up any mess they made attempting to sabotage stuff and if you’re the aggressor you’re more likely to see that grenade coming down to than another diver.

So anyway keep up the funny arguments but it’s pretty moot because the weapons would be deployed at the surface and the reason for the pistol is so you have something fast for defense while you deploy your long gun from a dry bag.

The only argument we had was IF the pistol would work underwater, without blowing up, or if it would cycle.

But, yes, it is VERY efficient for killing fish. And possibly other divers. And if I ever found myself in a "underwater war", I would rather have a Glock than a knife...

A bullet will not fire underwater for more than a few yards and losses most of its punch because of the density of water.

    Myth Busters tried it....

Powerheads work mostly because of concussion, not penetration when hitting a fish at point blank.
