This is the obvious outcome of the Gen-1 case of rebreathers being essentially experimental equipment, managed by knowlagable individuals with high levels of risk tolerance, to the Gen 1.5 case where factory produced goods are sold as a commodity, but are still "fraught with peril" from many standpoints, to the Gen-2 case, where rebreathers are becoming merely another consumer commodity and are used by less knowlagable indoviduals who cannot look out for their own risk management.

The trajectory of the mix of Gen 1.5 technology with Gen 2 operators is predictable: Get hurt, sue, and hope that the nanny-state courts will hold your hand. A real shame, but as predictable as the sun rising tomorrow.

Observation: Gen-1 was the safest case: Never heard of anyone getting hurt on a homebuilt.

Sad day for divers. But it's a business opportunity for someone. Nature and Marketplaces abhor a vacuum.

Calling Walter Stark, designer of the 1960's era Electrolung, and a return to Poliarigraphic cells that were made each day by the user from freshly mixed slime stuffed into the anode and carthode chambers of a reusable cell body. And even then the commercial failure of the Electrolung AKA "Chrome Death" was due to divers who tried to use the cells for a few days running, who ended up with resistance limited cells (these cells changed resistance, not voltage, as PP02 changed), toxed, died, and sued. There's nothing new under the sun.

Rip Quimby. He's a local here, clever guy, now works on North American Navion airplanes as his mid-life career (coincidentially I own one of the old-timers and reconnected with him thru aviation). He actually did have it working after a fashion, but it was, err.... "not ready for prime time" in any way.

    Folks,

As a recovering attorney, let me assure you that all you need to sue is a way to serve the complaint. Remember, McDonald's paid off for serving hot coffee. Teledyne probably had a meeting with corporate counsel, looked at potential liability - 'creative' suits frequently create new practice areas - and the size of the market. The probability that someone else will knowingly take on the sensor - 'a product known to be defective' would appear in the next suit - is pretty low.

    Hmmm, interesting.

Never thought I'd agree with much of anything ****** had to say, unless of course it hand a ring of truth to it. Which, well you know...

    Some of this ranting does...

It's just possible that if people could and would take responsibility for themselves and their actions things like this TD deal might not happen.

    What was harsh?

I didn't mean it to be, not at all.
I actually agree with some of what he said.

The point he's making that we (as a community) somewhat brought this upon our selves is right I think.

Sorry if it came off the wrong way.

Well, I'm no longer a Mod. And I really didn't mean to not be nice.
Again, sorry if it came off the wrong way.
