diving after pituitary gland tumor removal

    Hi,

I am inquiring for a friend who used to dive but had a transsphenoidal surgery (through the nose/sinus to get to the brain for the non medics) to remove a pituitary gland growth. He was subsequently told (this is more than 12 years ago now) that he should not be diving afterwards. Follow up checks have shown that all is well and that there is no regrowth of tumor since.
I have found reports of people diving after this surgery but I was interested in what the diving physicians view was on diving 12 years after such a procedure.
The only thing I can think of is some barotrauma danger in the sinus area.
He has been snorkelling recently and is very keen to dive again.
Any input would be very welcome since he was a very passionate diver.
    Alex

My wife had this exact surgery a few years ago and was told that diving would not be an issue once the incision was healed. She has since dove and had no issues.

Thanks to both for the reply. I will let my friend know that there is hope and to go an see a hyperbaric medicine specialist.

Of course, any other comments and experience of others is much appreciated...

    Cheers,
    Alex
