    mininimum scrubber size

is there any mininimum size's required for scrubbers
ie diameter or length for reaction to take place?
say i wanted a 1hr scrubber for say an o2 breather could this scruber be small and compact or will it fail because of reaction area?

Dager Ray scrubber would seem ready made for what your asking (depth dependant).

    Re: mininimum scrubber size

there are lots of old threads regarding this subject.

In short, be careful with too small a scrubber. Two principle factors come into play...1) dwell time and 2) gas velocity through the scrubber. Small scrubbers permit gas to flow too quickly through the absorbant, not adequately scrubbing the gas. there is no perfect formula out there, but to start, do some research on exisiting scrubbers that have some calculated theoretical bedlifes. Better yet, integrate a well-konown scrubber into your project. A Ray, Dolphin EAC, IDA, or similar work well for any number of himebuilt projects

    good luck

400G / 1lb is about as small as I'd want to go. very small scrubbers work best on pendulum rebreathers, gas gets scrubbed twice per breath and also if size is critical then a single hoze gets rid of a mouthpiece with valves and one of the hozes.

cheers john but i'm more interested in size than scrubber material ,for reaction zones eg( say 100 mm diameter by 200 mm length ) and at what point will the diameter resrict flow rate too much that WOB would be too high!
    cheers any way
