    ADDIS CHARTERS (Part 5)

I have been reading about these Addis Charter trip reports for a while, and, based on the events reported, was set never to put foot on Jeff's boat. However, this week, not able to find an open space on any other charter, I decided to take a chance and register for a Saturday trip.

The day started at 7:00 am with Captain Jeff serving coffee. I took 30 mn to enjoy the morning, listening to the birds and drinking quite a nice cup of coffee... and decided to proceed to the dock... what a surprise! Captain Jeff had loaded and set up all my gear :).

Captain Jeff planned 2 dives: one to the Union Express (110') and one reef dive north of the Boca inlet. The seas were smooth but with a moderate current. Captain Jeff hooked the wreck on the first try and set a geriatric line from the back of the boat to the anchor line. Therefore, after entering the water, I only had to pull myself easily to the anchor without having the fight the current. EASY!!!! Not sure what Don and Adrian were talking about when they complained about the line needing knots??????

One of the best part of the trip was the ease with which I was able to gear up. This charter is equipped with top of the line equipment benches!!!! Let me tell you.... these are so much more practical and confortable than anything you may have experienced on a regular charter boat!!!! They are wide enough to easily accommodate a sitting diver with his/her gear and are at the perfect height. Of course, all gear bag and miscellaneous items easily fit under the benches, thus leaving plenty of room to move around. The benches are also equipped with top of the line gear restraint system so that wether OC or CCR, the equipment is safely secured on the benches from the time you leave the dock.

I inquired with Captain Addis as to these benches... I understand that he and Don Six set up a task force to design the benches.... with Don Six of course doing all the work. The result is PHENOMENAL!!! Thank you Don!!!!!:)

So for all of you who, like me, have been hesitating to go on board Addis Charter: hesitate no longer. The service was first class, the vessel although small was perfect for the diving. Of course, all this came at a small price. Captain Addis requested I cook him dinner and ..................

That may be a small price for you, but the "and ...................." scares the crap out of most of the rest of us.

It is still better for my self-esteem to put up with lousy service and a drunk captain.

The benches do look awfully nice though.

It's obvious that you guys haven't researched the Patents on these benches.

See: Wide Aluminum Dive Boat Benches: Tubular Backs And Legs: With Restraints To Secure Gear:Screwed Into Boat Deck:Used On Boats Under 38' In Florida...

You will see that I invented not only this bench, but all benches...

To avoid wasting your time looking all this up, don't.

Further, to avoid legal fees in trying to hopelessly defend my lawsuits, just start sending me royalty checks every time someone uses said benches... Let's say $10.00 per diver to start out with... Also free use of the boat if I ever decide it's safe to dive with Don!

    Nice job guys...

Looks like Don and Jeff did an awesome job with the new benches!

I'm looking forward to trying them out, but now you have me a bit scared, because I don't cook, and I definitely don't...

Don still needs to weld the frame for the shade covering over the benches. Let me know when everything is done so that my drysuit and I can give it a test evaluation for the SCRUB boat list. :)

I thought they would have to pad the seat for your butt before you would dive the boat.

This stuff works very well... Keeps gear from slipping & sliding & adds a bit of comfort to sit on. It's extremely durable, drains well, and attaches easily.

Used on some of the boats up here...

    Kitchen / Restaurant Mats: Cushion-Tred™

It's even available in Hello Kitty Pink!
