Trip Report... Jackson Blue HammerHead Powered Trip Report

While I tend not to be a big person on writing up trip reports, I wanted to share a “few” details on a recent “Hammer Powered” trip that took place. The last several years a group of us have held an annual pilgrimage to cave country. Our wives acknowledge that’s it the equivalent of a one week men’s hunting trip! Over the years it’s been a mixed crowd of CCR divers and has evolved over time to become a primarily a mixed Hammerhead event. This year was unique that it ended up being a mix of different types of Hammerhead rigs. Here is the mix of characters that were in participation.

One MK-15 HH Powered rig… “AndrewDonn"

One Classic Kiss HH monitored rig… “O.C.Diver”

One traditional HammerMeg rig… Mark L…

One very untraditional HammerMeg Side Mount rig… (Don’t be fooled by this picture. Rob and his kit look awesome in the water!) "robinfante

One Hammerhead CCR with BMCLs… “diverklondike”

There were several additional HH type rigs that were planning to be in attendance that were unable to attend due to last minute work related obligations. (Names are being with held to protect their identities at this time…. But you know who you are… J)

Yes special thanks goes to “Heyydude” Mr. Hammerhead himself and for the special T-Shirts sponsoring the event.

For those of you that have been to the “Hole In The Wall House”, you know that it’s a great location to hit several of the less frequented northern Florida caves from. Jackson Blue, Hole in the Wall and Twin Caves from. Hole in the Wall House Home Page

BTW… My definition of “less frequented “consists of anything outside of Ginnie and the surrounding areas…
    J
For those of you that are thinking… Wow… It’s cold where I am… They must have had a great warm trip, think again…. We had two nights where the temp was down in the high 20s F and left ice on the filling tank at Cave Adventures the local dive shop.

This year one of our goals in addition to experiencing the great diving was to do some home improvements on our favorite base of operations for the area as it applies to “outside lighting” (Yes this is an inside joke that may only be appreciated by those people that have stayed at the Hole in The Wall House.)

Throughout the week we dove the three sets of caves that I mentioned above.

On Friday we were fortunate to have the weather gods in the Gulf smile on us and allow us to make it out to the “Big – O”. We used the same dive operation that Curt is planning to use for the RBW event in May. Capt. Doug and the crew of the H2O were awesome in supporting a group of CCR divers.

We did a single 3 hour dive on the wreck that gave us an opportunity to scooter the aircraft carrier from end to end, visit the props in the sand and investigate the flight tower during our assent and deco.

The view of the sunset on our way back to the docks made for an end to a perfect week of diving!
Can’t wait until next year’s trip!
    Dive Safe!

Thanks for the write up Mark. Sounds like a good time and the usual cold snap like previous years.

How did the HH BMCLs' work out? Can you give us a rundown on them?
