What world do you live in? "...not allowed to show nipples"? Men and women can walk topless down the streets of NYC if they want. Nipples are shown in PG rated movies (I distinctly remember a nice scene in Clash of the Titans when I was barely 11 years old). The only place they're not allowed (well without being covered by a shirt) is on network television. So this little fact of yours is wrong.

On this we can agree. Mankini=wrong :)

Ummm, no that's called entrapment. Tricking people into confessing on the other hand is acceptable so long as they have not asked for a lawyer and questioning is continued. And I have no doubt that the techniques are virtually the same in your country. So "fact" number 2 of yours is wrong.

Perhaps if other countries would even act like Mall security guards the US wouldn't have to be involved in so many places. Sure it can seem overbearing that we have a presence in so many countries but when you have an economy that extends to every corner of the globe you kind of need to have a large presence. To quote Uncle Ben (not the rice but of Spider Man fame) "with great power comes great responsibility". Is it your opinion then that we should sit on the sidelines in every conflict? That would be a little ridiculous, no?

Sore spot? I guess you could say that. My sore spot is ignorance. I apparently have a character flaw in that when I see it blatantly displayed I need to set aside a little time from my day to try and bring enlightenment to those less fortunate. ;)

Now, you still haven't addressed the point I made that the "whingeing" was about the severity of the punishment not being appropriate for the crime. So can I just assume you believe $45k for two lures in the water is ok? And that in lieu of said fine a year of jail for that offense should be accepted wholeheartedly without protest or appeal?

no im not wishy washy at all. i think the invasion of iraq was a criminal act of agression and unjustified - sadam and iraq had f_ck all to do with 911 no wmd no cooperation with al qaede so wheres the justification to sacrifice the lives of 3000 young men and women as well as all the iraq deaths. I dont see what happened in WW1 or WW2 has to do with that.

Are you really that naive, Mike? And here I thought you were educated.
ahh, were at the stage of insults now

Not to pick sides in this particular argument but I can't see how the invasion would be an illegal act as the "peace" agreement from the 1991 conflict was never really honored by Hussein. I agree that Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11 but perhaps you would agree that, as the US faced the need to project a more aggressive presence in the world post 9/11 (in Afghanistan and other countries that blatantly supported or at least tolerated Al Qaeda) it would be difficult for such countries to take us seriously with Hussein regularly shooting at our aircraft and, in general, ignoring all the agreements put in place to settle the first Gulf War?

As far as the WMD argument goes, Hussein postured that he had WMD. Virtually every country in the world believed there was at least a strong possibility that he did. In the face of ignored threats leading up to 9/11 our government, imnsho, would have been remiss in ignoring that strong possibility.

The 3000 lives lost are a tragedy but so are the thousands lost on 9/11, those lost in the bombing of the USS Cole, those lost at the Marine barracks in Beirut, those lost on the Pan Am flight over Lockerbie Scotland, the life lost in the first WTC bombing, the lives lost at our embassies when they were bombed, those lost on the trains in Spain, those lost in England, etc, etc, etc.

The world had to take a new tack with regard to terrorism since the last 30+ year policy of turning the other cheek just brought harder and harder hits.

And while there was no Al Qaeda presence in Iraq before 9/11 it's become a rallying point for Al Qaeda supporters since the war began and there's no lack of evidence that there are foreign fighters and even an offshoot called Al Qaeda in Iraq today.

Last time I checked WMD etc had nothing to do with Rebreathers, although having seen certain members home build items you'd be forgiven for seeing certain connections (except they self destructed!).

Anyway, thread closed... off topic for the forum.
