    Cave Diving in Italy

Anyone got any info on cave diving in Italy? Might be there in a few weeks and it would be good to visit some of the caves. I can't find much other than general references on the web, no directions or access arrangements.

    Any info appreciated.

This and many other different marine caves are in Palinuro (near Neaples). Other marine caves are in Capo Caccia (Alghero-Sardinia). One of the biggest sweet water sistems is Welcome to Nick Toussaint websites Index
    near Vicenza.
Where are you going to stay?

There are very nice caves in Nord Italy, not far from Trento - Oliero Valstagna is a small down. There are 3 cave. Elefante bianco, Cogol dei Siori, Cogol dei Veci. The first goes down very deep, second its shallow for the first 250 meter and after a restriction called laminatoio goes down to 54 and remains between 45 and 64 meter. The 3th cave, don't know exactly, dived it years ago only in the entrance area for a test dive, remember goes down to 40meter. Not far from this 3 caves is a other very, very nice cave at Solagna.(ca. 6Km distance) It's a tunnel, very small, that goes down strait to 20 meters. There start the cave, very nice, first 250 Meter from 20 to 33 meter and than goes down to 125. Has 3 circles to dive.
If the conditions are good its excellent cavediving.
For diving at Oliere You need a permission from the "sindaco" don't know the English word (chef of the small down). If You are interested I can help You for that.

an oc diver from the tcheq republik is missing since two days in the elefante bianco. he was member of a party of 3 who had decided to dive down 80m but at -40 he made signs he would abort the dive and return....he never went out.

Very sad news, from the photos in the link, the condition in the cave seems really bad.

Try talking to Tim Morgan - he lived in Rome for a while and did some cave diving while there. Also Rick S and John V have dived in N. Italy (Vecci). Rick has not long got back from a recce to Sardinia (where there's some corking dry stuff to explore before considering going diving).

Those conditions looked rough. I don't think this is a good time of year for caves in that valley as alot of the flow is attributed to snow melt and glacier run which has been heavy this season. Late summer and early fall there is almost no flow and the vis is pretty good.
