![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I haven't seen any posts on last weekend's rebreather workshop at Ginnie Springs, Florida so thought I would share the following: Larry Green, the NACD Training Chairman, had a large hand in putting everything together. In all, there were between 75 and 100 people in attendance (about half raised their hands when asked who owned rebreathers). It was billed as "A hands-on workshop to introduce basic principles of rebreather diving, and an opportunity for instructors and active CCR and SCR divers to discuss issues pertinent to cave diving." In my opinion, the workshop lived up to its billing. The 5+ hour program was moderated by Jill Heinerth who was the Summit's creator. Jill is a natural workshop leader and added humor about previous career dives and early CCR "experiments." Lamar Hires presented the Optima and NitekX computer, Leon Scamahorn the Megalodon, Brett Hemphill the KISS, John Conway the Inspiration Vision and Evolution, Jarrod Jablonski the RB80, Jakub Rehacek the Juergensen Marine Hammerhead CCR, and Vince Ferris the MK15 and Lar5. It was nice to be able to put your hands on the different units and to have several of their designers there to ask specific questions of why and why not. Also, it was interesting to see how each had personalized their rigs with counter lung attachments, plumbing, etc. After lunch, which was provided free by NACD, Tom Mount talked about lessons learned on the CCR. Petar Denoble of DAN reviewed the rebreather accident analysis by DAN. Finally, there was an open panel of all of the speakers, followed by in-water demos for those who wanted them. Being a Meg diver, it was nice to be able to meet Leon, who had flown in from the West Coast just for this event. One panel discussion I found interesting was the position by the manufacturers apparently against the BOV, although the Inspiration is going to be offered with an optional BOV to meet the request of its customers. Jakub, who runs Golem - the largest supplier of after-market BOVs - had a differing position, of course. Also, the Juergensen CCR, which Jakub had a large hand in developing, comes standard with a BOV. I understand the NACD is going to make the video of the workshop available on its website. You might look for it if you would like to learn more. Anyway, three cheers to NACD for taking the step. Regards, Bill |

I would be very interested in who was not "pro" a BOV and what their reasoning behind this was. Best Regards, Mark The conversation on BOVs has been split into a seperate thread.... http://www.rebreatherworld.com/bail-...tml#post153050 Last edited by diverklondike : 24th November 2007 at 14:46. |

| Who loves ya, baby ![]() ![]() Current Rebreather/s: | Re: CCR Cave Summit - NACD Much appreciated, Bill, thanks for the write-up. Mark, Pete Readey is also against BOVs. WOB too bad, additional failure points. ![]() Personally I believe both should be able to be sorted, he probably couldn't be arsed to make them. ![]()
