Re: What's new at the Birmingham 2007 show ?

QVGA IIRC. Adjustable so quality v's duration. Looked great on the monitor on the stand.

Field of view is VERY wide - unexpectedly so. (for me, anyway)

With regards to the Vee Cam. looks a nice package but they couldn't answer 2 very important questions - 1)Resolution. 2) Field of View.

c-19 is realeasing TEKcam in a few months. Designed as a cost effective deep filming system for Expeditions with replaceable SD Cards for Storage, it's tested to 330m, 640 x 480 VGA, and incorporates a very wide angle (160 degree). TEKcam is based on a modular system. Admittedly it doesn't have a monitor but it's self contained with no wires meaning no chance of entanglement, if you flood it it'll cost about £100 to replace the camera, oh and one more thing - it'll cost about £350.

Thanks to everyone who attended our presentation by the way.

The VGA will vary depending on the storage options chosen but they couldn't give me this information. Bottom line: If I'm spending £850 I would want to know the resolution the unit can deliver. Also the footage they were showing on the monitor seemed to me to be mostly Mini DV with the VEEcam footage condensed into smaller windows, which increased perception of the resolution.

With the field of view - no specific info on this, especially as it will narrow underwater.

From the VeeCam FAQ:
Frequently asked questions

·What is the camera specification, including field of view?
2.2 MPixel CMOS Sensor in 1/3” format
F3.2, HFOV 50deg, VFOV 60deg
1600h x 1200v XVGA

Dynamic Range 61dB
SNR – 35dB @ 100Lux
Optical Distortion 1.5%
·What is the recording format? The video recording format is MPEG4. Thestill image format if JPEG. The recording quality can be set as either CIF, QVGA or VGA, all up to 30 FPS
·When will the device be released? We currently taking pre-orders for the unit which is expected to be available before Christmas.
·What colours are available? Currently VEEcam is only available in black.
·How much is a unit? The cost of the unit is £849.99. There is a delivery charge of £10.00 for mainland UK. Overseas delivery is dependent on location. There is a £10.00 surcharge per unit for payment by Credit Card. There is no surcharge for payment by debit card.
·Where can I see one for real?VEEcam will be exhibited at the What Hi-Fi/Stuff gadget show in London on 2nd, 3rd, 4th Nov. In the longer term we will be working with a number of distributors, details of which will follow shortly.
·What is its low light capability? The VEEcam CMOS sensor has an impressive low light capability. We have tested VEEcam in low light/low visibility dive conditions, and at dawn and dusk on mountain bike trials and we are pleased with the results. A promotional video showing footage captured in low light conditions will be available soon.
·How deep can the unit really go? We have successfully tested VEEcam to 150m. The product is sold with a depth rating of 100m.
·How much does a replacement Camera cost? The VEEcam website will soon be updated to include a shopping basket where you will be able to buy VEEcam and all spares and accessories. Detailed prices will be included.
·Can VEEcam record sound? VEEcam is compatible for audio. An external microphone can be plugged in to the second port. Additionally, a camera with an integrated microphone is soon to be released. It is waterproof but will not be rated to the same depth as the standard camera (100m).
·Can the camera be upgraded? Presently the camera is a 2.2MPixel CMOS sensor. This has been selected to provide an optimum balance between video and still image quality. Higher resolution sensors will produce better quality still images but will not increase the video quality as this is recorded as VGA (640x480). In the short term, there is no plan to develop upgraded cameras.
