![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: What's new at the Birmingham 2007 show ? I think Mark's summed it up nicely. The 2007 show belongs to Bruce - The Shearwater Pursuit was everywhere and very lovely it is too. It was great to meet Paul at last - and see the electronic rEvo. With Shearwater Pursuit. (Nice parachute options using the Shearwater alongside the standard orifice). Great to see John (Narked@90) and Brent's lovely Deep Pursuit, with, you guessed it, an upgraded Shearwater Pursuit. Watch this space as this looks like a lovely replacement Inspo setup. I was fortunate enough to meet Bruce and his lovely wife back at the hotel and was very interested to hear how the Pursuit came into being and the trials and tribulations of being a manufacturer in this industry! It was nice to catch up with mates again too, and meet new/old Rebreather World people. I found a certain Mark Chase wandering past the APD stand. We had a look at the AP BOV (very nice) and I think he was quite relieved not to catch fire or something when he stepped onto the stand! Of course, in his bag was...a Shearwater Pursuit. They were everywhere I tell you! ![]() The rEvo was everywhere too and receiving a lot of positive comments. Only bad thing I can say about the unit was that aparently the settings can no be altered below 10m. They took one to 150m before the screen colapsed so they rate it for 100m. It shoots four hours so I will be switching it to record and forgeting its even there till I get out of the water. You can set a key lock so the thing isn't affected by the buttons being pressed at pressure. There are plans for either a remote controller or using different buttons. It's a lovely design - nice to get away from the standard Diver Brick. The camera is very wide angle and can be set to compensate for different light in the unit - no more trying to add back the red in Photoshop if you don't want to. I think Mark and I have the same thoughts on this - turn it on and record everything as a normal camera just gets in the way and spoils the dive. I'm looking forward to the MP3 player in later models and ESPECIALLY looking forward to being able to download films to it which you can do right now. Deco will never be dull again once you have something like Lord of the Rings to watch! It was a great show, made even better by the English win in the Rugby! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | NEC Thieving Ripp-off Merchants... Just to add two things: First, an EXCELLENT talk by Rick Stanton and Leigh Bishop. Rick's talk was particularly superb and the diving they did was breathtaking. One unusual event occurred during Leigh's talk - or rather at the end. Leigh held up a letter and asked if a certain gentleman was in the audience. A sheepish guy put his hand up. Leigh then read the letter from the girl next to sheepish guy, asking if he (sheepish guy) would marry her!!!! Happy to say, he said yes! ![]() Nice finish to the talk. ![]() Second, WTF???! The parking was more expensive than the Dive Show ticket!!!! £8 to park! Correct me if I'm wrong, but the organisers have the option of charging for parking and how much. £8? Taking the p*ss. £15.50 (£18 on the door) just to get through the Dive Show door is not going to encourage people next year, especially those who have all the kit they need and use the Dive Show as a social. ![]()

| Who loves ya, baby ![]() ![]() Current Rebreather/s: | I firgured someone beat me to all the news, good thing too as I'm rather tired and my camera battery still in the charger. Wore it out. Lots of good stuff, and I'll be doing a proper report when I get around to it. But the highlights and suprises have all been mantioned: The new Shearwater pursuit is sweet, and so is the Deep Pursuit from John and Brent. They kept busy all day Saturday and I'm sure did well. The Cell Checker is beautifully done and justifies the admitedly admittedly high price. The Sentinel is a one hell of nice rebreather, the new cases C2R has are awesome. Very slim, and eventually they'll filter down to the other products C2R and DeltaP offer. The unit is not a small rebreather, then again it's not meant to be a recreational rig like the Sport Kiss. It passed the Ouroboros in cannister duration, and can be had with the same features such as solenoid/ADV isolators, offboard gas connectors etc. One of suprises was the APD BOV, and it should be a success. Quite small and nicely streamlined for a BOV, same rotating action as the stock DSV. Save for a single screw, one couldn't tell it was a a pre-production unit. And they got it past CE, so it should breath well. The other suprise of course was the testing that Kevin comissioned of the currently available volume production units. Inspo and Evo, Meg and Optima, rEvo and both KISSes. Results varied from what one expected to quite a suprise, as Mark pointed out, the Classic Kiss beat the Boris in scrubber duration. Also compared were breathing resistance. Results will be published, and I applaud Kevin for making the effort to get us the data from an independent testing facility. The Royal Navy divers were up for a good chat about their rigs, and I got a close look at their CCBA. Thoroughly enjoyed that. Last but not least, the Rebreather World Store was a success. A place to get together for a chat as well as do some shopping. Barry and Andrew did a great job, with Beanie and Louby Lou supporting their efforts at every step. Aside from plenty of Rebreather Sorb we had a lovely little Haskel booster, Shearwater Pursuit and Cell Checker, URM & VR3, sensors, gas analyzers and M&J fittings on display, and most of it for sale. Plus Rebreather World branded shirts, caps, drysuite underwear, as well as some beautiful prints of wrecks off the Irish coast. More to come, including the a couple of pictures. ![]() But it'll take a couple of days, am swamped at work. Had a great time at the show, as well as afterwards. Thank you all, especially Lou, Beanie and her mom for their hospitality.

Thanks everyone for the quick update, it wets my appetite for the detail report from Stefan... ![]() The Sentinel is a one hell of nice rebreather I hope you will add more detail descriptions and photos.Quote: One of suprises was the APD BOV, and it should be a success. This too.Quick question for those who played with it... In normal CC dive mode, is the reg facing forward or downward ? Do you remember the order ?I have heard from combined comments this is the order:

I took a few pics, including scrubber assembly.None of the head inside, though, as only one complete unit was on display. Quote: Quick question for those who played with it... In normal CC dive mode, is the reg facing forward or downward ? Forward on CC. Hose rotates in the BOV, as it does in the DSV.And, as you can see in the pic already in the gallery, very low profile. 2nd stage doesn't protude much, not a lot larger than the stock DSV. And a nice thumb rest to assist turning. Even I managed. I was impressed. Quote: Do you remember the order ? Better than that, I photographed the charts. ![]()

Forward on CC Looking at the picture Ben uploaded, I was afraid of that... ![]() Personally, I find forward facing BOVs tend to free-flow more when running with a fast scooter against strong current - unless tune it down all the way. So I hope it has an adjustment knob on the second stage. |

| Staying Silent! Mostly... Current Rebreather/s: | Re: What's new at the Birmingham 2007 show ? Yes John, Bastard. Was good to catch up with you again if all too brief due to us both being busy.Nice to meet you, H and all the others Brent, Beanie, Lou, Barrie Law, Bruce & Lyn we had a good, busy 2 days. And it was great to see old friends, Neil, John, Paul Cross, I can only apologise for not jumping stark bollock-naked into the BSAC try-dive pool as I had promised! Cheers, Dave Cooper. I have to say I was dissapointed that you let the side down by failing in your streak mission! One thing I must say is that as I spent most of my time doing demo's of the Cell Checker, it was very well received by the majority inlcuding the British Navy! However I did encounter a few divers who seemed more than a little oblivious to the point of doing cell checks of any kind!!! One comment was "Yeah I do an O2 flush at 6m at the end of a dive sometimes. Other than that I change them every year." Really does make you wonder again about the quality of some training being offered. |
