| Blogs Admin / Forum Mod ![]() Current Rebreather/s: | Day 1 - OzTek'2007 OzTek'07 - Day 1 Here is a quick report from the 1st day of the OzTek'07 show. It all began with Frits (Sydney Project) falling in love with the "giant SCUBA tanks" they had outside the building ... ![]() F**k rebreathers. This baby gives me 2 weeks of bottom time anywhere ![]() The show is very well received - all the major vendors of technical diving equipment are there. ![]() A very busy day indeed! Lots to see, people to talk to gadgets and gear to check out. My day starts with a long chat with Martin Parker of APD fame. Nicki and Martin are at the Southern Cross Divers booth with Barry Hallett of SXD (You send them, we bent them :-) Martin will give a talk tomorrow and there will be news about the long awaited BOV. Nothing new to see at the booth, there is just one Evolution for display. Later during the day I meet Lamar Hires from DiveRite. Tony Davies (DiveRite Australia) is showing the new FX. The unit shows a few improvements over the original O2ptima. Looks like a great package for travelling. The inside is quite neat compared to its predecessor. Unfortunately, there are no plans to come out with a conventional scrubber. The Micropore will be the only option. But Lamar is optimistic that the supply network is improving. ![]() Lamar Hires (DiveRite) visits the Rebreather World/Sydney Project booth Southern Cross Divers are showing the rEVO. What a neat package, extremely low profile. I'll have to go back and check out the unit tomorrow. I think I also saw Paul Maekers at the stand, but haven't had a chance to talk to him. The Eagle is there in a CMF mCCR version and the eCCR version. I'll have to spend some time with the guys tomorrow. There are just not enough hours in the day, because I have to take care of the Sydney Project/Rebreather World booth as well. The Rebreather World T-shirts are selling rather well! People do appreciate the information and help they get from the site and like the idea of contributing to the running of the board. I'll run out of T-shorts soon and may have to make a list and run a second batch of shirts if I continue selling them at the current rate! We'll see. We also had quite a few visitors: Mike Gadd, John Chatterton, Ron Micjan, Dr. Simon Mitchell, Mark Spencer, Jason McHatten, Lamar Hires, Pete Mesley, Scuttlebud, Jason Blackwell and many more came to visit the Sydney Project/RBW booth. It is great to be able to put faces to some of the people who post frequently on the board. Great stuff! Some pics ... ![]() John Chatterton (Deep Sea Detectives, Shadow Divers, ...) at the Rebreather World/Sydney Project booth ![]() John Chatterton, Samir Alhafith (Leader of the Sydney Project), Frits Breuseker (Sydney Project) and Sven Paepke (Sydney Project, RebreatherWorld) ![]() Ron Micjan and Donal Walsh after their 510 Meg dive (accumulated total depth for the Meg team in feet ) visited the Rebreather World/Sydney Project booth![]() Dr Simon Mitchell, Paul Garske, Steve Loneragan, Sven Paepke (all Sydney Project) meet with Mike Gadd at the Rebreather World/Sydney Project booth. Besides all the new gear, the guys from the Historical Diving Society have put on quite a show. I'll have some pics tomorrow. All in all - a great day of diving, without getting wet and cold :-))) I look forward to Sunday.

| Blogs Admin / Forum Mod ![]() Current Rebreather/s: | Re: Rebreather World at OzTek'2007 OzTek'07 - Day 2 Today I planned to take some video footage of the event to post it here on Rebreather World. Great thought ... but 310MB file size are too much to upload in one piece. But how can I cut the WMF file into smaller pieces??? Can anyone point me into the right direction? The show today was even busier than yesterday. The day began with Dr.Simon Mitchell's presentation "Respiratory Physiology at Extreme Depth - Lessons to understand from the Dave Shaw accident". If I understood Simon right, he thinks there is a depth limit to diving, beyond which the work of breathing creates more CO2 than the lungs can remove from the body. This is because the little tube that connects the alveoli with the gas space inside the lungs, collapses under the pressure created from forcing the gas out of our lungs. Of course, Simon did a much better job explaining the physics behind this phenomenon than I can do. Though by invitation only, Simon's presentation was extremely well attended. Exciting science from a very tragic event. Another presentation I attended was Andrew Fock's "Oxygen: Friend or Foe?" session. Andrew had quite a bit to say about the science (or better the lack thereof!!!) which led to the USN and NOAA tables and rules of oxygen toxicity. The presentation did leave me with a lot of questions about what we actually know about oxygen vs. what the tables suggest. I'll certainly be even more conservative than in the past! Anything above 1.7bar appears to be russian roulette. I hope Andrew's research will be available somewhere via the Internet. I would consider this presentation a Must Read! for technical divers. Martin Parker gave an update on the Evolution/Inspiration. The highlight from the session were some pictures of the new BOV!! So it is definitely real. Martin also showed some preliminary test results about WOB etc. From what he was prepared to show and tell, this will be a great piece of equipment. Very exciting indeed. Sorry - no pictures here, but there were quite a few in his presentation. The tooling has apparently started and the end of the year was mentioned as the timeframe for when the BOV will be available. Martin also spoke about O2 cells, scrubber packing and duration and the TempStik. Everyone on the Inspiration list will be familiar with the messages: Change your sensors and pack the scrubbber according to the manual! During the Q&A, I asked about any plans to come up with a more rugged replacement for the Classic handsets. Unfortunately there is nothing in the pipeline. Martin also shared footage from the recent expedition to the Britannic. Awesome pictures! Unfortunately, I missed quite a few other presentations: Mike Gadd about Sra Keow, Samir Alhafith about 5 years of Sydney Project, and many others! OzTek should be extended to 4 days so that everyone has a chance to see all presentations! :-) During my experiments with the webcam, I had a good look at the rEvo and later in the afternoon Paul Maekers visited the Rebreather World/Sydney Project booth. The reception for the unit here in Australia seems to have been very good. Look out for rEvo divers in Oz! After the show I'll try to get a try dive on one of the units at Southern Cross Divers, our LDS. Martin Parker came to our booth later in the day and we chatted about Paul Garske's twInspiration (aka The Fridge). JDZ came to visit the Rebreather World/Sydney Project booth and told us about the challenges of organising diving in remote areas of Australia where the equipment needs to be hauled in via chopper! Ron Micjan also came to say hello. He has lined up a bit of diving for himself in the coming week. There is actually quite a bit of diving around Sydney. We had many more visitors today at the stand. Great to see so many new faces! The video also has footage of the new O2ptima FX, the Eagle, and the KISS with the new displays and HUD. Once I have managed to chop the video into smaller pieces I'll upload it here onto Rebreather World. Unfortunately the light wasn't great and a lot of the pictures are a tad jerky. For a laugh: Ron Micjan took a picture of a Halcyon RB80 which was "parked" at the empty "Ourobboros" (sic) stand. Enjoy! All in all - the show was a great success! Thanks to Richard Taylor and David Strike who organised this great event. I can't wait for the next one. Maybe next time around we can organise a few more activities for Rebreather World: It would be nice to have more pictures and some decent video. It is a bit hard to do this as a one man band. So thanks to the Sydney Project for manning the stand while I had a wander around! Cheerio!

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Great write up Sven! This was the 3rd one I have attended, quite simply an amazing show in two ways. Fiurst up, for the person who like to wander, chat and look, it's a wonderland of toys and trips. For the rebreather diver, AP, Jetsam, Eagle, rEvo, and Optima were all represented. Boosters, torches, drysuits, Rebreather friendly destinations, and knick-knacks were an eye feast. Then there was the presentations. Wow! All that information, back to back, was fantastic. I can't even comment clearly right now, as I'm shell shocked by information overload, I'll have to digest it over the next few weeks.
