MWDC presents USSMEG and Dan Crowell

March 13th speakers:

USSMEG (aka Paul Blanchette) – Diving the Spikefish – A Video Presentation
Fellow club member Paul Blanchette presents video from his expedition to the wreck of the submarine “USS Spikefish”. Spikefish was laid down on 29 January 1944 by the Portsmouth Navy Yard in Kittery, Maine; launched on 26 April 1944, and commissioned on 30 June 1944, Commander Nicholas J. Nicholas in command. Spikefish had limited success in WWII operating in the Pacific theater, and was based in New London, CT following the war. She was subsequently sunk as a training target in August 1964 off Long Island, NY.

Dan Crowell – WWII Underwater – Video of the U853, U352 and U701
Dan Crowell will present one of his current video projects, WWII Underwater. Dan is filming the U-boats sunk by the allied forces that now rest in American waters and many of the shipwrecks that those U-boats sent to the bottom - all in hi-def. Dan is also the Director of Photography for Seeker Digital Productions and Director of Underwater Photography for KPI; together they are working on developing new underwater content and programming for cable and network TV.

Meetings are free and guests are welcome, divers and non-divers alike. MWDC meetings are held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Natick, MA. The hotel is located on Route 9 (Eastbound) at the Natick/Framingham line. Members often meet socially at the hotel bar from 6:30 to 7:30 prior to the meeting at 7:30. Visit MetroWest Dive Club for more details.

Re: MWDC presents USSMEG and Dan Crowell

Is this the Rickm that snored like a lumberjack...in Pampano Beach last spring?

...sounds interesting. If Dannys involved it will be great!

Re: MWDC presents USSMEG and Dan Crowell

The Mike I know from Pompano last year dove a Mark 16. I would have been in a Dolphin or Kiss, and don't snore quite that loud IMHO.

Our club is looking forward to both presentations. Paul (USSMEG) shot some great video of the Spikefish, and Dan will present some great material as well on the U853 and other wrecks along the east coast.

Since both presentations present material on local wrecks, we hope local divers will find the presentations interesting and attend the meeting.
