Re: Sentinel LSS - Trip Report

Thanks for those pics Phil, it's great to see what the units look like in the water.

Any chance the backup HUD can be disconnected?

Just curious, what is the thing on the hose just below the hose weight near Simon's left ear? Almost looks like a HUD holder, but his HUD is on the other side.

That's an interesting way to rig the stage with the bunjee loop around the arm.

Re: Sentinel LSS - Trip Report

Great photos!

Did anyone on the trip explore removing or relocating the rear hud/entanglement hazard?

Any comment on the hydrodynamics?

You can not disconnect the rear HUD but you can leave it inside the case!

The HUD holder on the left side is to clip the LP hose for the Poseidon 2nd stage on the BOV!

Cheers,

the bungee loop just lifts the valve up and holds the cylider more in line with the body it is still clipped in the usual manner to the harness but as you can see from the second and third foto that my cylinder is more horizontal (2nd foto)

FWIW You could get it completely under your arm and even more inline with an Armadillo style sidemount, seeing as you've gone half way might be worth looking at?

Seems strange that the breathing hoses have to go into the "top" of the case... rather than in the front/bottom then go whereever they need to go shielded inside the case, guess thats just the way it is though...

How did everyone else get on
Hi Paul,

I think overall everyone enjoyed the trip although for me it was made a little more difficult as I was returning to diving after quite a long break and on reflection I should have been much better prepared but in fairness the diving was all quite shallow and the unit felt good after 2 days but I would suggest being well prepared before hand.

I do think the Instructors Kevin Gurr, Phil Short and Al wright from CCRB with the guy's from here on Rebreather World who did a great job making things work with 20 new units being operated and 5 of those where new CCR divers but there was always a calm atmosphere on the dive deck and sense that a lot was happening behind the scenes to keep everything moving smoothly.

I had a great week and I thoroughly enjoyed the trip the food on the boat was always good and the company was excellent with Ahmed from Emperor looking after our general needs and Micheal (France) who was aboard to look after the gas fills and brief us about site conditions etc had his Meg on the boat and he was good enough to take my underwater camera for a dip so I will post the video shortly.

We had a night out in Sharm when we got back to shore and that was interesting but I forgot to take my camera!

Here are some more pics from the end of the trip;

Does anyone from the trip have opinions about trim and hydrodynamics?

Hi Ilikerisk,

The trim and hydrodynamics are subjective but I found the face down position to be the most comfortable when diving the Sentinel LSS and a right hand angle would encourage the ADV to fire and a left hand position would require slightly more demand to make it fire. Although those positions still had very comfortable WOB, swimming on your back was for me not the most comfortable probably due to the back mounted 4.5ltr counterlung but it was still OK.

The mouthpiece took a bit of adjusting to get it to sit just right and also to make it feel comfortable as it does have the BOV fitted and the loop hoses are push fit into the head so marking the right position for you when you have found it is a good idea. The BOV was very easy to use and it has a very nice action to operate it from the CC position to the OC position and the Poseidon gives a lot of gas but it is best to keep it mouthpiece down when removing it to prevent any free flows the BOV should be fed directly from the inboard fist stage regulator to ensure compliance with the CE Standard as the Manual Inject / Switch Block may cause a flow restriction at depth but I am going to run it that way in the future and see how it goes.

Taking it for a couple of dives this Saturday so I will see how it feels in the not so warm waters of an Irish Lough.
