Re: Sentinel LSS - Trip Report

Barrie, could you post a photo of the manual add assembly showing the offboard connection? I'm curious to see how streamlined they managed to get it.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Sentinel LSS - Trip Report

Hi Guy's

Sorry about the lack of trip reports but the mobile connection card I have is not getting great reception and also getting time to post during a very busy schedule is a big problem.

There have been several things that have come to light on the units although no uniform issues have emerged and strangley the Mod 1 divers seem to have adapted to the Sentinel better than some of the experienced CCR guy's.

As this is the Launch Training Expedition it is expected a few teething problems will be identified but the Sentinel LSS is already starting to grow on me after two days diving and I am getting the hang of the feel of this new CCR with the BOV and rear mounted lung that is unlike anything else I have dived. This unit has a lot going on and I believe there will be a few detailed post's when guy's get home after the trip but one thing of interest is the way it tracks the scrubber duration with a multi point sensor reading canister temperature and a secondary monitor that calculates the amount of Oxygen the Solenoid has injected as an indicator of the amount of C02 produced and therefore the remaining duration on the scrubber. There is also a third timer only clock that will kick in with a warning at 5 hours.

The unit requires a pre-dive check routine to be followed on the Primary Handset and this prompts you through the key requirements before making you do a 5 minute pre-breathe that also shows the scrubber status and changes from RED to YELLOW before allowing you to proceed to a diving screen and this should help divers to eliminate a lot of the mistakes many of us make when prepping a CCR unit although there is also an auto ON feature if the Sentinel LSS See's a drop in the loop PPO2 (breathing on it) or if it See's an increase in Bar pressure (entering water) that is allowed for any emergency situations like the boat being on fire of sinking.

so does that mean that unlike boris, with the sentinel you have to do a pre breathe?

So if the boat is on fire you'd grab your unit and go for a dive?

Re: Sentinel LSS - Trip Report

Should your boat be on fire and you go for a dive then the unit will switch on through both depth activation or using the auto-breathe software in this case, the prebreathe screen is part of the pre-dive checks, should you just put it on and jump overboard it will work, one of the reasons that it is called a Life Support System.

Cheers,

Dave Cooper.

Won't this occur during the initial pre-breath?
