The counter lung behind your head makes me wonder. Hi Frankie,Dave 1)Do all the hoses come plastic coated? Is that cover crimped into the brass sleeve or is it just slid over the whole hose? 2) Could you bring your Sentinel to the States in April?? Again Best or luck guys ....I wish I was there playing with your new toy :-) Cheers Frankie I think they are Miflex hoses and all are covered with this coating, very flexible though. Miflex Xtreme - Safety When The Pressure's On ! The coating passes under the fitting which is quite long and not like a traditional short crimp. Not sure I am gonna make April yet, will let you know buddy. Cheers, Dave.

| RebreatherWorld Sponsor ![]() ![]() Current Rebreather/s: | Re: Sentinel LSS - Trip Report Hi Guy's, Day one started in earnest with someone knocking my cabin door down as I had overslept and was late for the 08:30 breakfast but considering I had been travelling for 2 days sleep was badly needed. Everyone was bustling around the breakfast room and filling out the paperwork that included registration forms, current cert levels, disclaimers and the like. This was followed by a briefing from Kevin about the day’s Itinerary that would start off with a strip down and rebuild of the loop section & scrubber unit body on the Sentinel LSS and following some lunch would continue with a unit set-up and scrubber packing session. We have a mixed bag of experience from divers who are learning how to dive a CCR for the first time (5) to divers with previous CCR experience (12) of which 2 are Instructor Trainers and one is an Instructor Trainer Trainee making a full boat of 20 divers. So a real mixed bag of divers with 5 visiting from the USA, 1 from Oz, 1 from Korea and the rest are from all across Europe. But getting to the good stuff about the Sentinel it has an Axial scrubber mounted into a three section unit consisting of the head with the sensors that are Teledyne R17D’s and the bayonet connectors have screw locking caps to that ensure they remain secure during diving . They are mounted in the inhale side so the breathing gas that has been expired travels into the head of the unit where the Oxygen is added and it passes through the scrubber from top to bottom and returns back up the outside of the scrubber canister and past the sensors to be re breathed. The head has a high pressure solenoid fitted for Oxygen addition that is factory service-able and does not require any user maintenance and will operate with up 20 bar supply pressure using Poseidon Extremes Regulators selected because they met the quality requirement for the Sentinel and they are also the only Regulator certified for use to 100 mtrs. Next there is a central tube that houses the scrubber and a then base section that also has the loop over-pressure valve and a hose that is located roughly at the Lung Centroid designed to dump from the over pressure valve equally at any position in the water, the over pressure valve is adjustable the same as a dry suit shoulder dump. The whole canister is made from Delrin that has been machined to quite a high tolerance so removing sections and re-assembling is a bit of fun with everything being a bit ‘new’ and needing to seat properly but the feel is very solid and the design appears very well thought out with most removable parts having primary & secondary locking mechanisms. The Counter-lung is a 4.5lt single bag that sits at the back of the scrubber head and it has a push connector and a locking catch and there are also push fit connectors with locking nuts on the loop mouthpiece hose assembly connectors and they all have button release mechanisms to remove them for cleaning & servicing. The Sentinel comes with a BOV that uses a Poseidon 2nd stage for the O/C bailout and this is meant to be used for ‘sanity’ breathes before going to O/C bailout proper. The mouthpiece section has mushroom valves that are Platinum impregnated that CCRB say are the best available on the market as they consider these valves are essential to the correct working of the LSS and we spent the morning stripping this assembly and rebuilding it. The hoses that connect the mouthpiece unit are also a push-fit design and they are locked by plastic retainers and all the push fittings are double ‘O’ ring sealed on machined Delrin. Following a break for lunch that seemed to be following a trend of very good food being served aboard the MY Tranquillity we spent a couple of hours out on the dive deck assembling our units and that also included filling the scrubber canisters for the first time and I have to say it does take a little practise to nail it and the instructions are written on the side of the scrubber to guide you through the process if needed but once filled the scrubber canister locks into place with a click and the packing springs engage again machined Delrin & stainless steel are the principle materials. During the afternoon the first group got the chance to give the Sentinel a dive whilst the rest of us continued preparing and adjusting / checking our units for diving tomorrow morning so I hope to have some info about the in water characteristics tomorrow , I have added a few pics from today to hopefully give a feel for a tough enough day that finished this evening with a diving lecture.

With so many of them there it's a great environment to test hardware. Anything about the design causing you concern as a new user? How well is the single counterlung working out? 4.5l seems... on the small side. Are the platinum impregnated mushroom valves proprietary? Last edited by Marvintpa : 25th March 2008 at 11:34. |
