Sentinel in Denmark

Hi list

I have been looking forward to dive and experience the hands on with the unit.

As a Ouroboros IT, I was invited to help developing training materials for the Sentinel. This was a great upportunity to try the new unit. Phil Short from CCR, had a preproduction unit with him to Denmark this weekend.

I must say, it supprised me, how good it breaths and how userfriendly the electronics are. It´s quite easy to have a good trim on the unit.

I really look forward to get my own unit soon, and you guys who have one on order, you have something to look forward to.

I have attached some photos of me and Phil, taken in Mariagerfjord.
Courtsy of photos, are Jesper Kjøller, DYK Magasin.

Re: Sentinel in Denmark

Thanks for the photos....nice to see the unit in the water. Quick question, the breathing loop looks like it sticks up very high above your head. Can it be adjusted/shorten so that it would be more streamlined and closer to your back/shoulders?

Re: Sentinel in Denmark

Rasmus, thanks for the info. Any word on whether the final production version will continue to use cam bands for the bottles or if something like Tiger mounts might be available?

How did you like the stock wing/backplate?

Will the backup HUD be like that in the production version? That looks... well, could be a nightmare for wreck penetration.

Agreed, the hose configuration looks dedidedly odd. Sure looks like the scrubber sticks up awfully high off the back as well.

You are right, if looking at the last pic you can see that the hoses come out of the box at a very high point not like boris box , hoses should held down by weights

If you look from the side , the sentinel looks more bulky compared to the boris not as promised more streamlined

Re: Sentinel in Denmark

The breathing hose routing doesnt look that great to be honest. Hoses wrapping around your head like that will be irritating and if your using comms, even more so. I really dont like the look of that.
They (the hoses) are so long though, I wonder if you could strap them down so they leave the unit from a place more akin to the boris or 15.5? Though I'm sure that wouldnt be approved for wob.

I very pleased you found it easy to use and were impressed by the electronics, that means a lot. I'm looking forward to getting mine, but I am concerned about the hoses, though I doubt it will be addressed by CCR.

Re: Sentinel in Denmark

Looking at the picture again, it might be improved by a small redesign of the case. One with the hoses coming out more to the side (towards the corners) and perhaps then you could move that trim weight back to were the hoses are now 'cause it looks like your banging your head against the weights in the photo.
I know the hoses leave the scrubber case very close to the lid so it probably couldnt be achieved without lowering the scrubber in the case which would open a can of worms with wob probably.

oh well.

Re: Sentinel in Denmark

Come on guys, stop being polite; that thing looks big, awkward and poorly laid out. Those hoses are just asking for a beating in an over head.

Thanks for the Report and the great pictures.

I am just wondering if and when the improved Sentinel electronics features will be availeble for the Boris. I guess this would make some Boris owners happy too

Cheers Andreas

Re: Sentinel in Denmark

You're absolutely right Cameron, the Sentinel is an ugly rebreather. It might breathe very well but it's ugly. And big, very big.
