Just a couple of questions??

I am seriuosly considering a second rebreather and the Sentinel has alot of points that I am looking for (ie..BMCL, and the use of EA absorbant). I was just wondering a few things:
1) Since I live in the US, is it necessary to ship this unit back and forth overseas for repairs?? And, if it is necessary to ship it oveseas, is it a customs nightmare where it may be tied up for a period of time??
2) I would be purchasing a Level 1. Can upgrades be made (Level 2 & 3) by the user or would it have to be shipped back ??
3) I know that instructor training courses will be offered in the Spring of this years. Any possibility that there would be a future instructor available in the Md/Pa/Va/DC area? I know that there is currently a Boris instructor in the Great Lakes area. (I was just hoping for an instructor a little closer to where I live which is Maryland)
Thanks for any future responses...

Re: Just a couple of questions??

Urs,

I cannot answer questions 1 or 3 but in reply to your question about upgrading, yes, the unit will be upgradeable between versions, though unsure by whom.

Cheers,

Dave Cooper.

Hi
I asked Delta P this, and here is the reply:
"if you order a level 1 you will have to send it back for upgrading here at the factory"

urs 15,

with regards to shipping for repair i am in a similar boat as yourself as i am in the eu, but not in the EU as far as taxes go so have the same customs issues, when i send things to the uk for warranty repair i have had no problem with the customs as long as things are clearly marked for "warranty repair".
To my understanding it is only the electronics that need sending for factory service, so this cuts down on the shipping size for routine maintenance,
I believe there are both hardware and software differences between level 1 2 and 3 so it should require returning for upgrade.

as for instructors in your area i would ring delta p im sure they will inform you if there is going to be one around you.

regards si

Re: Just a couple of questions??

why not just buy the level 3 version and then they will release the PIN codes for the software as and when you have completed training, but you will have the other hardware installed already?

to quote Delta P "You can buy a level 2 or 3 unit with the trimix pin switched off and once you get 50 hrs on the unit and receive training for mod 2 or 3 we can activate trimix on your unit."

i am living in asia so have a similar problem. plus should you want to sell it on in the future it will have a greater resale value.

as for the shipping for repairs of electronics etc, then again i have heard that "correctly labelled" paperwork is the key, and as for instructors i only know of good ones in my area i am afraid, unless you fancy taking a holiday over here can not help with that!

Re: Just a couple of questions??

Well, for the extra money you get extra hardware. Seems fair to me.

Might be inconvenient but it does make more sense than outrageous
software charges. Look at the VR3 or Shearwater, they seem like a rip-off
by comparison. Hundreds and hundreds of whatever currency for a code
number to unlock a system that costs just as much to develop.

Not everyone wants or needs the full capabilities and features that are
being offered, so why have to pay for them? Why have to pay for the
training to use them if you don't?
