![]() | Repairing ray counterlung I recently(today!) aquired a drager ray off of e-bay. Much to my chagrin, the counterlung has a hole (really more of a seam seperation) along the bottom of the inhale side of the counterlung about 1 inch or 2.5 cm. in length. Has anyone succesfully repaired a ray counterlung, or any plastic counterlung, and if so, how? Right now I'm trying Goop. ![]() |

The dolphin lungs I bought came with a coupl eof patches, so I imagine they are repairable. Try a web search for repairing dolphin lungs, I think I saw a discussion years back on what to use. Alternatively send them back to the guy on Ebay? Dave |

| Steve Sprague Current Rebreather/s: | Re: Repairing ray counterlung Do you have a copy of the Dolphin Tech manual? If not, pm me your email address and I can send you the manual in pdf format. It is 60 pages and about 1.8 MB in size. There may be a Ray Tech manual floating around the Net as well, might be worth a google. On page 14 of the Dolph manual there is an outline of the repair proceedure. It says to repair black bags with tears less than 20 mm in diameter with either "Aquaseal for Neoprene" or "Aquasure for Neoprene" made by McNett Outdoor. It says not to repair the white bags, they should be replaced. My used Dolphin had some small leaks that were repaired with Aquaseal after I bought it. The repairs have held up well. Good luck. Edit: This product was mentioned favorably on Rebreather World earlier this year, I have been meaning to pick some up, my local Recreational Vehicle shop has started carrying the stuff. ![]() | Re: Repairing ray counterlung Well, the aqua-seal didn't hold, but good old cyanoacrylate (super glue) and duct-tape seem to have done the trick. The ray passes pos and neg tests. and perhaps a pool test will inspire the confidence I'd thought I was already PAYING FOR! AARGH ! Monty, I appreciate the offer. May I politely put you on the back burner until I've a clearer picture of that with which I'm dealing? Either PM or respond here. And again thanks to one and all! |

![]() | Re: Repairing ray counterlung The problem with this is figuring out just what product Drager is referring to. McNett is not terribly clear with its names, and changes them around from time to time. "Aquaseal/Aquasure for Neoprene" could mean the regular, clear urethane Aquaseal, or Aquaseal Seal Cement (which is not for seals, but that's another story), a black neoprene contact cement. I suspect its the latter, since Aquaseal is not described on the tube or literature as being specifically "for neoprene", while the Seal Cement is. Certainly that's the one I would pick for gluing on a patch - black neoprene cements are very strong and long-lasting, and stick to almost anything.
