![]() ![]() | Sorb life Refresh my memory. I know this topic has been discussed extensively. I packed my CK scrubber canister with fresh sorb (sofnolime 408 mesh) last friday, May 9th, for a dive the next day. The weather has not been cooperative and its been 8 days. I did all the pre dive checks +/- etc. The loop has been closed since then. It looks like we may not get out for a few more days. What do you think? Should I dump it and start with fresh? Comments! Thank you

Its your choice. noone can tell you 'yes it will be fine' as if its not they could get done for it. the manufactures wont even tell you that.I packed my CK scrubber canister with fresh sorb (sofnolime 408 mesh) last friday, May 9th, for a dive the next day. Thank you look at the facts, its had 5-10mins of 1bar ambient use. then been sealed so co2 load is minimal. the other options are its absorbed all the moisture and gone hard , or its fine. its £7 worth of material. not much help i know you will also hear lots of 'ive used stuff that was packed for weeks' which i have, but that was my choice. steve Last edited by ReikiMaster : 16th May 2008 at 10:58. |

| CK+Shearwater ![]() Current Rebreather/s: | Re: Sorb life FWIW I packed mine on the 8th (for a dive that didn't happen on the 9th) Next dive booked is the 24th (15days later) I will not be dumping and repacking. Part used and stored slime is one thing, packed but unused is another.... unfortunatly there is no data and little advice on either. The only slight flaw is that leaving the KISS DSV closed for extended periods seems to make them leak/need relubricating more often, I'd prefer to leave mine half open but not such a good idea if you want to use the contents. Its all Voodoo ![]() ![]() |

![]() ![]() | Re: Sorb life Thanks to both of you for your replies. I usually leave my DSV closed when not in use. Could this cause problems? Thanks

I can understand the manufacturers not wanting to do this..... First the more we dump, the more they sell and secondly the alleged liability issues..... But there must be some way to get a test funded out there.... Richie |

I have mine closed when there is slime in the unit, the rest of the time I leave it half open (knob at 45 degrees) At either end of its travel its hard up against numerous o-rings which seem to suffer more if left in that state... Of course you change those o-rings annually and lube them regularly so they "should" be ok anyway but just in case... |

![]() | Re: Sorb life Refresh my memory. I know this topic has been discussed extensively. I've thought about this as well. It seems to me that leaving freshly packed, and unused, sorb in the canister with the dsv closed (or hoses/dsv removed with a plug in the hose ports) shouldn't be any different than sorb stored in the keg. It just doesn't appear that there would be any problem with leaving it sit in the unit, just as long as it is not exposed to ambient air.I packed my CK scrubber canister with fresh sorb (sofnolime 408 mesh) last friday, May 9th, for a dive the next day. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Sorb life I think it is importand that you don´t have any flow at the sorb/scrubber. I have leave my sorb in the scrubber for 14 day´s and then i do a 1 hour dive (36 meter)without any problems.

![]() | Re: Sorb life It's hard to predict how long sorb will last in a closed rebreather loop. Residual moisture, leaks and gas permiability of the CLs etc. will have effect. I have left sorb in packed scrubbers sealed in mylar bags for over a year with little degradation
