Dust & me

My last dive has been done with an ARO C96 'Castoro' (100% o2 ccr).

I was surprised on the first inspiration to breath some dust of sorb (nothing more some minutes later).

Victim of a too simple conception ?

Yes and no. I forgot to sieve sorb and discovered that an intermediary lung between scruber and diver's mouth could be useful.

Humidity is also important by fixing dust in the loop (hose).

3 easy solutions:

1. to add a simple filter.

2. to sieve sorb

3. to change sorb (Dräger Divesorb for now)

Any other ideas welcome
Eric

Re: Dust & me

Some/all of the above?

I use Sperasorb and I feel it contains a lot less dust.

In addition I read the advice to take off the hoses and give a good blow on the exhale side to blow the dust out before diving.

Having done that I feel there's no need to have a filter of any kind installed but hey that's only my 0.02c

Thks Dutchy. Indeed it seems to be a better solution than using a (state-of-art) filter.

Well tbh I did use a filter until I learned to get rid of dust by just blowing the remaining dust out as described. When the filters came out clean time after time I couldn't be bothered anymore. I have btw never noticed any wob change but I suspected when really wet there may be an effect.

The Drager Divesorb I have used has always been very dusty. Switched to the only other alternative (Spherasorb), and found it to be much cleaner, breathes easier, seems to last just as long, and is significantly cheaper (in my current location).

Re: Dust & me

If you plan to mod the c96 for use at depth packing the scrubber very very well is a good idea and you will get some dust as you need to tap the scrubber a lot.

using spherasorb helps, but will reduce the scrubber life by a lot compared to 797.

When you pack the scrubber, place a hoover nozzle, first round the outside and then most importantly seal it into the center of the scrubber (with your hand). This then draws a lot of air and most of the dust through the scrubber and into the hoover.

good luck
John

Re: Dust & me

I was getting a lot of dust (and some granules) depositing in the head of my CK. I fitted an Inspiration scrim to the top of the scrubber which has stopped it. I don't know if this is something that can be fitted on yours?

nope, c96 / p96 can't really have a filter fitted, only way is to remove the dust before starting.
