| Rebreather World Writer ![]() Current Rebreather/s: | CO2 scrubber left in the open overnight yo all As I was writing up the piece on surface interval waking up and CO2 I did got a reply that made me think, and would like to find out a bit more about. What are you doing with your scrubber if there is some time left on it. Matt Last edited by mattmexico : 15th September 2007 at 18:09. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: CO2 scrubber left in the open overnight I voted for the "I seal it up in the can or plastic bag.", but I leave it out for a short period so the material cools and drys out. I just ensure that it sits where there isn't a flow of air over it, and then if I'm diving the next day, I seal it back in the can. I will then leave the unit in a neg pressure state until the next morning (good long leak test). If I'm not diving for several days, I'll pack it in a plastic bag and tear down the rebreather. You may want to add the following choice: "I never re-use sorb, so I discard it after the last dive of the day." I have at least one friend that never stores his ExtendAir cartridge for his Optima after even a short dive.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: CO2 scrubber left in the open overnight I more or less do as the others said so far. I’ll remove the scrubber & let it dry for a few hours and then store it inside of an airtight container. When the next dive on that particular scrubber comes around (I have 3 different design scrubbers & try to match the tool to the job) I do a gut check & make the decision to dump or not. Any dive deeper than 30 ~ 40 M will almost always start w/ fresh sorb if I’m not on a trip. More than a couple of weeks rates a dump as well. I try to not leave partially used sorb in any scrubber longer than a month or so even if I plan to repack it before the next use. I learned the hard way that partially used sorb left in a scrubber too long can stain the stainless screen to a rust like color.

I bought my Meg used and noticed this discoloration. I wondered what had caused that.

![]() ![]() | Re: CO2 scrubber left in the open overnight I think one should think "Is it worth getting a CO2 hit because I want to save a ridiculous little amount of money compared to what my rig costed?!" Like others wrote, I leave my scrubber in normal air until the next morning or so, and if I'm not going diving that day, I'll put it in an plastic bag. That is, of course, if the sorb only have been used like half the time rated by the Rebreather producer... If I'm planning a deeper/longer dive, I'll throw it away, regardless of how long I've used it... Better safe than sorry... Cheers Bo Urskov |

| New Member ![]() Current Rebreather/s: | Re: CO2 scrubber left in the open overnight Huh? Mine's sitting behind me still where I left it after I downloaded my holiday. I'll put it back together soon. I'll get round to diving it sometime. If something was forcing CO2 laden gas through it I'd worry. Frankly I'd be more concerned that it would dry out too much and not start up the moment I started breathing it.

I’ll remove the scrubber & let it dry for a few hours and then store it inside of an airtight container. Me too, let it dry out during dinner, then into 2 plastic bags, as per the manufs instructions. Tupperware and sealed cointainers are not so space/travel friendly. I guess a drybag would be the best idea though... |
