Re: Storing sofnolime in scrubber housing!!!

I leave the head to dry out overnight, ditto the scrubber and scrubber canister.

Next morning reassemble unit and dive or stick back in diving cupboard.

I'm happy to leave partially used sofnolime inside my sealed CCR for up to 4 weeks. Beyond that I'll chuck it and refill with fresh sof.

Is partially used sofnolime not ok if left inside a reassembled unit for this period of time?

Should I be getting rid of the excess condensation on top of my scrubber then placing in a plastic bag overnight?

Just checking here - do you mean that you make sure the housing is dry before storing it, with the sorb still packed? You should not unpack the sorb from the canister to dry it and then repack it for the next dive. Sorry if I'm stating the obvious, but your post was a bit ambiguous.

I am quite happy to leave partially used sorb in the canister, in the unit ready for the next dive, have been doing so for years with no ill effects. Just make sure you keep track of the total usage time!

Re: Storing sofnolime in scrubber housing!!!

Hi guys, I'm a bit of a Rebreather noob, just certified on the RB80.
It's the only Rebreather I've ever used.

I'm planning on doing 2 short dives this weekend, then I was hoping to save my sorb in the scrubber cannister to do 2 short dives the following weekend.

My question involves the cleanliness of storing the cannister for a week (or more). After the first weekend diving, I'll obviously sterilize my hoses, BOV, bellows, etc. I'd also normally also sterilize the scrubber canister, but clearly I won't be able to if it's filled with sorb. So, if decide to reuse the sorb and not sterilize the cannister, are there any health concerns about bacteria growing in there?

Thanks, Steve

Hi, I wouldn't be worried about bacteria growing in the canister over the course of a week or so, especially if you rinse and sterilize on a regular basis.

Yes.

Bacteria can't eat 'sorb and it's a nasty chemical to try to live in.
You can surely find better places to keep your pets.
