Pelagian BOV on the rEvo

After having BOV envy for a few weeks, my Pelagian BOV arrived from Thailand yesterday. Fitting onto the rEvo was as simple as it could be.

(1) Remove zip ties which (insufficiently) hold the hoses to the Drager DSV.
(2) Place hoses over Pelagian BOV.
(3) Zip tie the hoses onto the BOV.
(4) Remove mouthpiece/gag strap from Drager DSV and zip tie onto Pelagian BOV (or use the supplied mouthpiece w/o gag strap).

Nothing to modify. Well. Almost nothing.

The HUD fits almost perfectly onto the Pelagian BOV, but the angle of the HUD is too low to view so I had to bend the mounting bracket to adjust. This was a fairly trivial thing to do.

Now, about my comment about the zip ties being insufficient for holding the hoses on the Drager DSV. The lip of the Drager DSV is not very pronounced and is quite low, and I'm willing to bet that anyone with a rEvo can remove the hose from the DSV with a little effort - this was the way I removed mine for the swap and it has happened more than once. I think for this case, stainless hose clamps may be better suited, perhaps with a piece of inner tube to prevent undue wear on the hose. The lip on the Pelagian BOV is much more pronounced such that zip ties should be sufficient to prevent the hoses from pulling off.

I haven't tested the BOV yet, but will be doing so shortly, as soon as my BO plug-in is complete. I plan on trading with Tyler to check out his Golem BOV as well to see what the differences may exist between these two - from what I've read, these are two high-quality BOVs.

Here are some pictures of the Pelagian on my rEvo.

Re: Pelagian BOV on the rEvo

hi Paul K.,

let me know how it performs!

conc the zip-ties: I send out a rEvo newsflash lately, I suppose you found it?

it concerns the zip-ties on the mouthpiece: we now use the ones with the metal locker, and always 2 on each side
If your DSV is with a single tie, please change it into the new ones!!
ask robin, i showed him in seattle

regards
paul

ps... I was just going to ask where your second HUD was.. until... :-)

Re: Pelagian BOV on the rEvo

Coyld I ask what mount you use for the HUD an how it is attached? I cannot work out from your pictures whether it is attached to the BOV itself or to the hose clip. I have a Pelagian with the BOV and will hortly need to attach the HUD display.
Thanks
Andrew

Re: Pelagian BOV on the rEvo

Did you have to change the flow direction of the BOV?
Apparently the Pelagian feeds left to right while the rEVO is right to left?
(or vice versa? can't remember)

Re: Pelagian BOV on the rEvo

Hi Everyone,

Paul R. - I will certainly let you know how it performs. I'm curious myself!

wearypanda - Paul R. is correct, I am using the original HUD clip from the rEvo Dreams, which attaches the the BOV. The only modification is adjusting the bracket so the HUD is aligned with the mask better. This is because the second stage portion of the BOV doesn't allow for the clip to rotate down far enough - basically, there is only one position for the HUD clip on the BOV, whereas on the Drager DSV you can rotate it. Not a big deal.

Davy - The Pelagian BOV can be ordered with the flow either way - he had both in stock when I ordered mine.

Its actually more expensive than other BOV's because you have to do a wire transfer and pay for your bank's fee as well as Rebreatherlab's wire transfer fee. This ended up being $75 USD on top of the BOV, which was $950 + shipping.

I tested the BOV today and I'll post a full report on it sometime this week. You may want to read my review on this unit before purchasing one so you can know the details of it. I dove with Tyler, who has the Golem BOV so I'll try to make some comparisons between the two.

Hi Paul,

Some news from the comparisons between Golem and Pelagian BOV?
I am really interested in your conclusions !
