| Wanted: Used Rebreather complete or not! Looking for used rebreather prefer ccr but will consider scr. I am a tec diver and looking to start training and learning to dive rebreather. Would consider purchase of unit and training if price is right. Also interested in rebreather that needs repair or service. Located in USA but if price is right will purchase Overseas. Leaning towards inspiration but will consider any model. Any advice or comments on what unit to start on and what options to look for greatly appreciated. |

| Re: Wanted: Used Rebreather complete or not! Since you're a tec diver, I would recommend CCR over SCR. CCRs are virtually depth unlimited, unlike SCR. I would also recommend starting with a complete, working unit, unless you are very familiar with the unit in question - it will make the experience less frustrating and more enjoyable, and get you in the water and proficient much more quickly. The meg seems to be prefered for cave diving (at least in your neck of the woods), but talk with people who have dived several to get their opinions. I know Gregg Stanton (Wakulla Diving Center near Tallahassee, FL) has nearly all of the CCR units available to test dive in his onsite pool before you decide. He is also an instrutor for all of them and does a great job of weighing the advantages / disadvantages of each. Since you are relatively close, I would recommend Gregg. Right now he is in the UK with Kevin Gurr, so he may not be able to be reached for a short while. Last edited by kmev : 12th October 2006 at 15:36. Reason: link added |

| Re: Wanted: Used Rebreather complete or not! I'll second the recommendation for Gregg Stanton. As Keith mentioned he has several versions of Rebreather on hand and will happily let you examine and try as many as you like in his pool. Definitely worth a phone call! Brian

| Re: Wanted: Used Rebreather complete or not! Thanks for the Info Greg sounds like the man to see. I will be at DEMA....will he be there? Will there be any DEALS to be had on rebreathers or only look and drool....... My research and kind feedback from RBW geeks says MEG with copius for manual flight and with quick change to Apeks head same unit can be operated as eCCR and apeks also provides deco info as well. This would be great as a backup in case eCCR gets sick or injured far from home. What about off board gas? Easy to plumb in? Will apeks handle off board gas deco info? Inspiration is not capable of manual operation correct? I am going to be taking first training classes soon as I find my deal and I think manual operation in shallower depths will instill good habits and proper thinking. Then when we get to trimix CCR electronic set point controls would be nice to help with task loading potential. I am used to RGBM style deco info but seems most Electronics use modified Bulhman. Any thoughts anyone? Thanks for all your help. I am very excited about coming over to the DARK SIDE!!! Hope to meet some of you at DEMA. |
