Franken-Son needs a new home

I'm cleaning shop and some stuff needs to go. The *original* Franken-Son, the IDA-71 that started all of the interest in KISS conversions of the IDA series needs a home. It can be provided in any stage of completion, but basically is the chassis, set up for single scrubber and (2) 2 litre cylinders, has the large ADV purge valve button installed (hit it with the back of your head for loop purge), has a brass shoulder block to feed diluent to dryysuit, wings, OC reg, etc, and QD's for diluent and 02 add lines. Has (2) P-Connectors in the counterung. Includes MANY spare scrubbers (you want a dozen? I'll send a dozen....) as well as a TON of spares. I can provide (2) steel 2 litre cylinders if needed but prefer to allow you to provide your own. I will not be including the KISS pneumatics or diluent regulators, but will toss in much of the hose assemblies. I'll also assist the new owner in making up the pneumatics. Includes custom fittings for the breathing hoses to allow any standard hoses and DSV to be fitted. Does NOT include DSV or hoses (well, I'll toss in a few sets of the Russian hoses for grins, but you'll want to use decent ones and a decent DSV). I used Ray hoses and DSV and the custom fittings will accept those or KISS hoses or any other standard hoses. Think I even have a Russian wooden footlocker for shipping. Might toss in a Zeagle harness too, and probably even have the bladders for the BC that I stripped for the harness too. Shipment is 2 day FEDEX for $100 flat rate anyplace in the USA. Can ship overseas for cheap. Will take sensible offers or stupid trades. This is the rig that started it all in IDA-71's so buy it and bask in the glory. I've got way too many rigs to dive and the Mark-15 and OMG C-96 conversions do it all for me these days.

Best web resouirce to see it is here:

Franken-Son Rebreather

What is even funnier is seeing that the Russians have reposted many of my photos and captioned them in Russian for domestic use in converting these:

http://mukhin.vif2.ru/diving/IDA71/

Too funny.... my teardowns translated fully into Russian.....

It's a great rig, just a shame to see it sitting in the corner.

Best,

Dave Sutton

Re: Franken-Son needs a new home

HI Dave,

I've been looking at the IDA 71 for some time now and I saw your conversion on your web page. I think it's stunning. I live in South Africa so it might be a problem getting it here, but I am seriouly looking into buying one.

E-mail me if you think that we might be able to work something out.

Yes, and for less than I have into the old man.

Private email for details: DSutton@RedStarAviation.org

(only because there are many possibilities of what is included to discuss).

Re: Franken-Son needs a new home

This unit inspired my conversion. A great unit to dive, balenced and very light.

Great! I have correspondance with over 150 people who have built them up, making it numerically right up there at the top of any sort of one-design "homebuilt". Might be a similar number of CCR Dolphins, but probably not a lot more. Never heard of any mishaps with them so that's good too. The complete set of pages has been translated independantly by various modifiers (using my pictures) into Russian and Greek, at least, so we're international too! The IDA-71 conversions based on this work have become a classic design. I'm proud! ;-)
