I visited a neurosurgeon about 18 years ago when surgury looked like the only out for my "slipped disk L5-S1." Funny, a couple weeks before the trip to the expert, I started swimming, dog paddle style in an effort to get some kind of exercise. Amazing life change. I went off the Norgesic/Parrafon Forte to Motrin 800s real quick. Doc said "press--avoid surgury at all costs."![]() Had pain on and off since then, but always gets better with time and more Motrin/muscle relaxers/Scotch/rum... ![]() I still dive, probably more than I should ![]() One more then I'll go--had a guy work for me a couple years back who had the erecter set surgury to "fix" him. When the pain came back in spades, he was told there was nothing they could do, as all that stuff already clamped around his spine--even though it's probably causing the pain--can't be undone. Simply ugly. Moral of the story--if you can avoid the surgury, do so. Good luck to ya, mate, time is a great healer. Rick |

| Re: Meg, PRISM and more for sale Steve, It's a pisser that it's come to this. The value of getting VERY fit shouldn't be overlooked though. Since my little incident I've gone through phases of being fitter and not so fit (don't think I can ever get back to where I was) and life is definitely easier when you're fitter and stronger. All those pains and other problems seem to impact a lot less when you're in good condition. Do as I say and not as I do, and I promise you you'll feel a lot better and be a lot happier. Cheers, Jason. |

| Ladies bring a plate Current Rebreather/s: | Re: Meg, PRISM and more for sale Thanks for the kind words guys. Hi Jas, I agree whole heartedly. The cutter agrees as well and has given me 2 months with a rehab dude to try to turn my body into granite. Small problem at present.......my workout is swinging my legs one at a time in chest deep water , an ironman I am not. I had some nerve blocks put in last week and I am up and walking again so here is hoping to them lasting until I get the muscles back on track. I have the dubious destinction of learning how to walk twice in my life, I'm sure I will bounce back.

| Customise Me! ![]() Current Rebreather/s: | Re: Meg, PRISM and more for sale You might consider spending some time with a Pilates instructor. My wife and I both attend regulart Stott method classes here in Kona; there appears to be a Pilates studio in Perth - http://www.pilatesstudio.com.au/index.htm - perhaps worth a visit.

| Re: Meg, PRISM and more for sale Hi Steve very sorry to hear about the back rehab. Our backs are sure proof that evolution is not done with us yet. I had an MC accident and did some damage to my 3,4,5 lumbar verts, very hard to get through life without a functioning back. Good luck to you. -Andy |

| Cap Ron scourge of the NW ![]() Current Rebreather/s: | Re: Meg, PRISM and more for sale Dude, terrible news, all of us on RBW will be rooting for you. I too have some back problems, comes from being hit by a car while walking across a parking lot, I have compression fractures in #'s 7 and 9 thoracic and have quite a bit of difficulty carrying anything in front of me, behind or alongside works OK. When my weight creeps up, my pain creeps up too, I just started back in the Gym this week to get back down to the low pain weight. Not to mention a little expedition to dive Crater Lake coming up next month crater lake that will require a hike up a mile trail at 3000 foot altitude with a meg monkey on my back. YIKES! Try a diet program called the South Beach Diet, available from amazon.com, I dumped 12 lbs in the first 2 weeks on that. Good luck buddy, keep us in the loop.

| Re: Meg, PRISM and more for sale Steve, Best of luck for the future mate...we seem to have far too much in common... name, weight, passion for diving - tho perhaps not the choking hazard I can't begin to imagine how you feel at the moment but can relate to the challenge of not diving again - hope it is motivation enough to get you through what ever it takes. Let me know which diet works .. now if it could just involve diving, drinking etc ...what a happier world it would be!! Best Wishes ![]() Steve |

| Re: Meg, PRISM and more for sale Steve Old backs are never the same. I did not realise that I had a problem until January this year - even though I operated my charter boat and had some dives with slung mixes. Went to see the doc about back pain and nerve pain in mr left side. Had spinal surgery at end of March. Had first dive about 3 weeks ago - back OK. Just a bit stiff. I see the surgeon next week and hope to receive a clearance to get back into serious diving. Looking at becoming one of the rebreather clan as this will reduce the strain on the fusion (less gear better bottom times. I have sent you an email about the Prism. John ![]() |
