| Re: Ebay Fraud I suspect that tracking down the chinese scams is an endless game. Everyone knows here that you can't buy a Meg or even an Inspiration ( ) for less than $1000.

| Re: Ebay Fraud Ebay will have a difficult time keeping up with all of the scams. I have created an ebay account that I don't care about so that I can bid on these auctions. I usually bid very high (like $10,000) for an Inspiration (although it would be well worth it for that ). None of these bullshit sellers have contacted me to claim their payment. My feeling is that this prevents others from getting scammed.Aloha, Charlie |

| Re: Ebay Fraud Quote: (Originally Posted by webhead) And ensures a good price if there was a legit sale. The problem is that e-bay is not fast enough to shut them down. I report them on a regular basis and sometimes don’t get conformation from ebay until the next day after its over. I don’t know why Rebreather but I’m sure it happens on other big ticket items as well. I’m not the police but I want to help and there are naive people out there and they will get screwed. I’m pretty good at looking at the sources of the emails and can detect people’s source. One person was so elaborate they had tracking information just like UPS but Euro cargo with the correct shipping weight. A complete web site with a legit look and feel. You could even get freight quotes. The whole deal. My friend said he would have screwed already. You talk yourself into the girlfriend is mad at the poor sluck and she is selling it. Been there thought that.Interesting how you justify your breaking of the rules because someone else does. |

| Earning the green stuff.. Current Rebreather/s: | Re: Ebay Fraud I think that people that do this cr*p should be set ablaze on a boat with the other cyber trash (spammers, hackers, etc.). But it's not always that easy to identify the criminals when they walk among us. Good that there are folks out there that watch this stuff and report it to ebay but I'm not a fan of people that feel they are responsible for taking their own action to correct/punish someone else's illegal activities. If more people thought that way, we'd have armed people roaming the streets shooting at people that speed or run red lights. <-- extreme, yes, but makes my point. Wouldn't it be better to fix the system to stop this sh*t instead of coming up with "clever" ways to stop it ourselves?

| Re: Ebay Fraud Quote: (Originally Posted by webhead) Interesting how you justify your breaking of the rules because someone else does. ![]() I have found Ebay to be slow/unresponsive to issues in the past. They have so many auctions going at any given time that it would take an army to stop these things. I was very nearly scammed a few years ago when buying a dive computer, and if it weren't for me working through the credit card company, nothing would have been done. Ebay and paypal, despite their claims of "protection" have limits of about $150 each when you read the fine print. The really frustrating thing is that PayPal always tries to get you to pay through your bank account (instead of using a credit card) so that they don't have to pay the fees to the card companies, yet their protection sucks in comparison. Sorry for being a bad person On the contrary, I think you are a good person or I wouldn't be bothering to post here. I think that someone who has the ability to spot a scam and wants to protect gullible people is a stand up person. But instead of fighting each fire as you find them, I think it's more practical to find a way to protect most everyone most of the time. Ebay is a company like any other... without customers, they wouldn't exist. So we as customers have the right to point out short comings and offer suggestions and request features. They don't have to listen or respond to us but then they will fail and others will take their place (e.g. failures - AOL, MSN).![]() We'll just call you Zorro.

I'm ok with Zorro I don't think that Ebay is going to be hurting from this anytime soon. Anyhow, I think it's great that you are willing to work with them...I certainly don't have the patience to work through their bureaucracy. We can work it from all angles! ![]() |

| Re: Ebay Fraud So guys the problem I have is that I do have a classic inspo for sale - I have listed it here a few times, even replied to people wanting to buy one - I have listed it on DiveOZ but very little interest. I have not got any silly price on it and as always life is a negotiation anyway so always open to offers but have never recieved one - problem is very little interest either way. I have resisted putting it on ebay for the very reasons discussed on this thread and I buy and sell a few things on ebay so didnt want to run the risk of getting unwarrented negative feedback or whatever else can happen - but what is the answer to selling this sort of dive gear. "MOST" people on this forum already have a breather so a bit like selling ice to the eskimos - Are classic inspos on the nose or something - Selling as I also have a 15.5 if anybody wanted to know - $6000 aussie with free shipping BTW.
