![]() | looking for divers helmet hey everyone -- im not sure if this is the correct forum to post this but: I graduated from the International Divers academy last year and I've been looking for a new helmet for the start of my career. I need a Kirby Morgan 17B commercial divers helmet and I'm having a really hard time trying to find a new one... they are either used, or not in stock, or 2-yr waiting list... if anyone can point me in the right direction to buying one, or has one for sale, or knows of a place to buy it... please email me at magretto21@yahoo.com or just reply here or send me a message.. thanks everyone .. its well appreciated. -Rich |

![]() | Re: looking for divers helmet Why don't you choose another model. The 47 was available without waiting list when i asked last time. Check also for 27, 37 or 57. Or do you like the old style toilet seat neck dam collar design? |

From what I understand they can unlatch themselves, causing an ungly scene underwater. I've dived the 57, and 77 (stainless one). The 57 breathes noticeably better than any other helmet. I love that 2nd stage. But, the volume of the hat is more than I like...hance my preference for the 27. 77 is nice also, but needs some mods to reduce the noisy as hell echoing in the hat.

From what I understand they can unlatch themselves, causing an ungly scene underwater. It will only unlatch itself if you have ignored maintanance for a very long time, have the old push pin setup or you are a complete idiot. As far as having an ugly scene...if someone cannot handle putting their hat back on they have no buisness making working dives. 27s may be better helmets but the 17 is far from a death trap. 37s are good only if you have a head the size of a watermellon IMO. At any rate any of the hats new will set you back over $6000 last time I looked. If the gulf does not get buisier pretty soon all the highway 90 break outs will be getting rid of their hats & the used price should fall substantially. If you can wait a bit you may be able to pick up a bargin. In the mean time the 17 for $3500 on offshore diver is the cheapest I have seen in 3 years unless its a bag of broken parts. RAL
