| Re: Which AL 80 For Bail Out? So would Catalinas be a better choice for on board tanks? IMO, they could be, since they will be mounted. Just wouldn't use them as any kind of bail out/stage bottle due to trim issues.

| Re: Which AL 80 For Bail Out? Eric, thanks for the info. What quarry u been diving in? Glad to be of some help, Mike. I have been diving at Millbrook quarry in Haymarket, Va. It is about 30 min to the west of where I live. Cold and crappy water, but it works for practice.

| Re: Which AL 80 For Bail Out? So would Catalinas be a better choice for on board tanks? Basically I would only use the Catalina tanks in a stage configuration in which there will be about half or more of the tank remaining... The bouyancy swing on the tank is huge when you go from full to empty. So if for example you mounted it to your meg you should base your weighting on the cylanders being empty. however you will notice when the cylanders are full you'll feal like your extreamly over weighted. If it was a matter of getting the tanks cheap I would get them and try to trade with a sport diver. The best advise I could give you is try and get your hands on one then dive it deep and breath it down....you'll be so tired of fighting the tank at the end of the dive that dream about Luxfer tanks ![]() |

| Re: Which AL 80 For Bail Out? I have a couple LP steel 72's left over from OC days. Anybody know the weight difference to AL 80's when full? I am considering using them for BO. There compact and trimmed well when diving OC.

Diving OC doubles I never liked luxfers for doubles because the went so light on the bottom. That is why I switched to steels. I agree that they are the only way to go for stages. Catalinas while much cheaper right now don't hang well. The bouyancy swing on the tank is huge when you go from full to empty. There has been more than one fatality from divers slinging steel bottles and being over-weighted. Just not a good idea.-E

Just not a good idea. In the ocean I would agree..., they make nice O2 bottles in caves if you have a solid floor to rest them on.-E
