Have fun, remember that's what it's all about. Competition in diving kills.... so let's break the chain. There's no piece of china worth a life.

Re: Andrea Doria Trip

Jiseson, you recommend sea turtle, can you explain a bit more about the logistic set up?

Cheers
AnneMarie[/quote]

I will keep this brief on the internet. If you want more specifics about logistics feel free to contact me through a PM or phone call 631-335-6323.
As for our Doria trips; Basically, we schedule a two day weather window and try to dive on the better day. We leave the dock in Montauk the night before (10pm) Average run is around 7hrs. we arrive around sunrise. In the "perfect world" two dives are planned, but expect one good one. We return that night and should reach the dock before midnight. Cost is $900 per diver (meals and 'lime included).
We offer this type of trip mainly because we can and it's something different that appeals to some divers. With our home port of Montauk we have one of the shortest runs to the wreck and can be flexible with dates. However, the Sea Turtle is a full time dive boat and dates are limited at this point, but still available. If you're looking for more days of diving out on the wreck I would recommend any of the other boats that have been mentioned.

We do offer overnighters to the Norness, Spikefish and Coimbra. Good luck with whoever you choose and be safe!

Peace, Capt. Chuck Wade

I *think* I know what you are referring to but once again you are inaccurate. But hey I'll give you credit for being consistent. You might want to pay your spies better...

Just to be clear: Chuck runs a good boat and is a good-neighbor. We're both members of the EDBA (Eastern Dive Boat Association) and he would be the boat that I personally would go on myself for a hit and run "fast day". As for the other boats... well, I'm not a cattle-car type so I don't recommend cattle-car boats. 6 divers are plenty enough for us each to give great service to. Both Chuck and I specialize in taking care of small groups. His boat is faster, mine is a better long range seakeeper for multiple day trips. Each is a good platform. Let the rest of the boats deal with crowds!

Chuck, we'll be on the U-Boat and Bass next week, and we'll leave moorings if you've not beaten us to them. See you on the ocean. Swim over and we'll have a Gam like usual.

Best,

Dave

Good question, as I would expect from someone of your experience level.

As someone who has about $100K invested in safety and survival gear to make our offshore trips safe, I'd also be interested in knowing what the other boats have for logistics.

Never mind the 'convenience items": A provided RIX oil-free compressor, Haskel Booster, (2) He/02 analizers, comprehensive rebreather spare parts and tool inventory, extra loaner drysuits, stages, and other goodies. Heck we even carry a loaner REBREATHER just in case (KISS).

I'd be very interested in knowing what boats have the following safety gear:

HF/SSB Radio (Global HF Radio)
Satphone (and a phone call home daily for the passengers)
HF Faxcimile weather forcast system
COPASS-SARSAT EPIRB (for the boat)
COPASS-SARSAT EPIRB (for the raft)
SOLAS equipped life raft
Ditch Bag for sea-survival of 12 people for 72 hours including VHF radio, GPS, Reverse Osmosis watermaker, first aid gear, rations, water, etc.
Advanced first aid kit incuding all basic antibiotics, suturing materials, and intubation equipment plus the knowlage to use it.
Contract with a Medical Provider to provide real-time medical advice via Satphone, coordinated with the contents of the medical kit.
Defibrulator for cardiac arrest management
Emergency positive pressure 02 system / ambu bag / etc.
Additional free-flow 02 capability sufficient to keep 4 divers on 02 for 24 hours for evacuation by sea from wreck site.
Towed RIB chase boat for retrieval of wayward divers.
RIB boat's survival gear: VHF radio, GPS, and EPIRB (think about it, you want to be 100 miles offshore in a 12 foot RIB without survival gear?)
Umbilical drop 02 system fed by 2 J Bottles hung on the deco station
Drop bottles of mix placed at the anchor and also at the 130 foot deco station

Etc...

Just curious.

Not to mention Red Stripe Beer, an icemaker to keep it cold, and most of a cow which we eat marinated and grilled.....

Dave

.
Couldn't update earlier as bandwidth on the satphone is fairly limited.

Well, what the hell, I decided not to wait til August to go Stateside as British weather sucks big time!

I can now confirm that Dave's boat is everything he says and more....more to follow on that later. Dave's mooring system and surface supplied gas ROCKS!!!!

Been having some fantastic dives here, check out the conditions in the pic!

I had the full wreck to myself today and yesterday. Life just does not get any better than this!!! Hoping to repeat again tomorrow if weather allows.

Regards

AnneMarie

Hi Nicolai

I found the offboard gas connection system extremely modular. From a redundancy point of view, it facilitates an immense number of configuration possibilities for onboard and offboard gas management. I would go as far as to say it is probably the best rebreather gas connection configuration I have seen.

If you are considering this route, I would not hesitate to recommend it. You won't find a better system. Before trying this, I had already mapped out the onboard/offboard gas connection configuration setup I wanted for the rebreather I am about to assemble, however, having now used Dave's multi-functional, multi-option system, I will in all likelihood, order one from Dave for when my assembly is complete.

I have some pics of the gas connection system but I'm currently now in New York and most of my batteries are dead so when I return, I will send the pics before I go to Thailand.

Regards

AnneMarie

Re: Andrea Doria Trip

Thanks for the kind words.

AnneMarie is just packing to leave our fair shores and will no doubt be providing a nice narrative of our various attractions and activities, gas management systems included. And she's now a genuinely certified rEvo diver as well, so welcome her to our family! Nobody could have done a better job of becoming a valued member of EXPLORER's dive team. Methinks we'll see her here again.

Considering it would probably be the understatement of the year :-)

I have before I ever dived a CCR been admiring this setup, and I have pestered Dave by email like you wouldn't believe

I just wanted to hear from someone else than myself and Dave that this system rocks - I allready have some parts ready, and have been through lots of the McMaster-site for the rest......
