| Gilberto Bonaga, Italy Current Rebreather/s: | La Paz, Baja California, Mexico I am heading there for christmas. Suggestion about CCR friend diving center, or dive to do, or things to see around there? On the way west i will stop in New York for a week. Any shop with outrageous low prices that is worth to visit? Thank you. |

He's out of Cabo, but we ended up doing trips up to La Paz and areas up that way - Incredible OC dives - we were out with a 40 ft Whale shark on 2 different days - but it was a good setup - I'll see if I can find thier website and find out about CCR..... |

| Re: La Paz, Baja California, Mexico I did two weeks at Club Cantamar in La Paz about a year ago. The rooms and food were clean and basic, but good. Click <<Scuba Diving Baja California Sea of Cortez La Paz Mexico>> or more info. The owner's son, Pedro, is certified on the Inspiration, although, as far as I know, he's not diving one regularly (but at least he understands them.) I actually watched Jeff Bozanic giving him the instruction as part of a class when I was down there. I know Jeff, at least, has been back to teach other Rebreather classes there, too. They have oxygen, helium (last I checked), and a booster pump, as well as sorb, on the premises. Check the date on the 'sorb, though, if you go with theirs. The stuff we got was a little past the expiration date on the bottle. Spare parts are non-existant, though, so be sure you plan well. They had rental Inspiration cylinders available, even. As far as the diving goes with them, I was totally non-plussed. Other than El Bajo, a great seamount that goes nice and deep, most of the sites are in the 0-60 foot range, and some in the 30 foot or less range. The boats can be a bit overcrowded with the "I dive once a year," out of shape tourist crowd, and that also tends to limit your dive time. They don't like to spend more than an hour at a given site, either. They were amicable to the first-in, last-out routine that we're all so familiar with when diving boats with OC people onboard, and that let me usually end up with 60 minutes per site...which is, if conditions warrant, the bare minimum I consider to be an "acceptable" dive. On the plus side, they didn't seem to care that I preferred to dive solo, which let me get away from all the noisy bubble blowers. So, it's hit or miss down there...if you can get enough Rebreather guys together for a ride out in a panga, without all the once-a-year dive tourists, they'd probably be an excellent place to dive from. If you can't manage to argue your way out of the daily cattle boat, you may regret the choice. |

| Re: La Paz, Baja California, Mexico I'd vouch for Luke at protec. We went out with him back in April. Did some shark diving. I was in La Paz and dove CCR with Luke a while back. Diving was excellent, inspite of the long boat rides. We had some great dives, including one where we allowed ourselves to be blown off a seamount and drifted in blue water at 30 ft for a good long while in total silence. After about 15 minutes we drifted right past a huge, Black Marlin, never forget it... -Andy |
