Djibouti

The Mehmsahib has got the possibility of us going to Djibouti in November. Anyone any ideas on how rebreather friendly it is and what it's like?

Thanks in advance,

Nick

Re: Djibouti

I made a few enquiries about Djbouti last year. Result was that you couldn't get O2 or nitrox, let alone lime etc. Air diving only - lets hope it is changing.

Re: Djibouti

Hi Nick,

Good to talk to you yesterday.

Djibouti is a great place to dive, I had some great fun at the end of the 80s there.

My cousin has just come back from a month there with the French Fleet Air Arm and was diving regularly, I will drop you a note when I am back in the UK in 10 days or so.

I think you will find it very difficult to get O2 and lime etc outside of military circles over there though, probably best to go OC.

Cheers,

Dave.

Hi Mate,

Much appreciated - I'll see what the long-haired General has to say (she is organising it after all) As for open circuit - what's that?

Maybe I'll have to carry an extra 60 kilos of lead shot in my baggage, as diving just isn't diving any more without excess baggage to pay. Or maybe I could take the Meg along just to show it the water and give it the chance of a nice little holiday.

Simon, As for your advice with Joining the Legion- I don't think they could pay to keep me fed. Whaleshark and chips anyone?

ATB

Nick

Re: Djibouti

Deco Diver, would be very interested to have any dive site tips or locations from your cousin who was out there diving.

Nick I am going on the 23rd to 30th November aboard the Djibouti divers, they have O2 but don't have anything else, so will need to bring cylinders, sorb and booster pump... lots of excess baggage charges, when are you going?

Hi Joseph,

All the dive sites are shore based and involve some interesting overland driving, from your description you are liveaboard, is that right?

You are going to love the diving, I last dived there in 1991 and it was brilliant, sharks everywhere, mantas whale sharks you name it.

Cheers,

Dave.
