| Hi, Has any one any knowledge of Technical / CCR diving in or around South Australia, or more to the point where I can go to obtain fills and rebreather spares. I am looking to go and try the diving out there, but before I go I need to test the water (no pun intened), any wrecks etc If anyone has any info I would like to hear it!!!!!!!!!

| Administrator ![]() ![]() Current Rebreather/s: | Re: Tech / Ccr Diving South Australia No. Basically... I spent my first 29 years there, and have only just left... There are now in SA, 1xClassic Kiss, and 2xSports Kiss, (all three on this board) along with a couple of Abyss' and a CCR Dolphin (if he's still alive)... When I left SA (3 months ago) for the Sunny State there was only one shop owner that would have even recognised a breather, let alone knew anything about them. He's now bought an Abyss, so maaaay be able to provide sorb. There are 3 shops that will PP Blend o2, but no boosters... Helium is not available from any dive shop... Deepest (non-cave) dive you will find there is the SS Ulonga, at about 38 meters. Quite a good wreck, but small, and the operators go there once a month if that... There are a few good wrecks, albeit small, apart from the scuttled ex-HMAS Hobart (133m long), but they are all in the 18-30m range. On the other hand, if you are cave certified, its an entirely different kettle of fish. In Mt Gambier (4hrs drive from Adelaide), its a Cave Divers mecca, lots of big sinkholes, small caves, and everything in between. PP blending He and O2 are available (still no boosters), and I'm sure sorb could be arranged. They have been a bit funny about breathers in the caves, but lately the rules have been relaxed. Have a chat with Harry on these boards, as he's the "king" of CCR diving in SA... ![]() Also, what time of year are you looking at heading there?

| Re: Tech / Ccr Diving South Australia Of course one of the SK owners thinks it is a device of the devil. Like CD said - there is very litlle technical diving in the ocean, mostly becasue it's not deep enough. Harry http://www.rebreatherworld.com/membe...rd-harris.html and I are probably the only people who regularly dive CCRs in the sea here. There isn't a shop where you can buy CCR spares. O2 and air fills are no problem but no shop does He. Not many people come to SA just for the ocean diving unless it's to see leafy seadragons. A nice list of the wrecks in SA is at http://www.diveoz.com.au/directory_w...ks.asp?state=6 If you are coming let me know and we can probably show you around. Dave T |

| Thanks for that, I have done quite a few dives out of the Spit with Baz and the team. I am looking at coming out it either December or March next year. If I wanted to go for the deeper wreck and use HE where would I have to go within reason, I would like to keep my skills up!!!

| Administrator ![]() ![]() Current Rebreather/s: | Re: Tech / Ccr Diving South Australia I can find you plenty of spots that are "deep for the sake of deep", but is there actually anything there to see? Nope... ![]() We did an "exploratory dive" to the bottom of the channel in Backstairs Passage (between Kangaroo Island and Cape Jervis) down to about 80ish meters, there was nothing there that you couldn't see at 15meters, and the current was a right royal bitch... Off Snapper Point (KI), there are some 50m walls, but again, not a lot to see. I'm not aware of any deep wrecks over there. SA just isn't set up for tech diving. ![]()
