recomendations for CCR diving in selawesy?

we are looking for recomendations on who to dive with in selawesy indonensia.

any experience with Murex dive Resort or Lembeh Resort?...they claim to be rebreather friendly. we are looking on planning a trip in 2007, any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

I emailed them 2 years ago and they seemed accomodating, I think they operate some small liveaboards. Joe Radomski has been there and told me that they have O2 from a PP blending system and supposedly some sorb. I was told to ask for Danny. I'm sure I'll wind up there sooner or later.
Other choices in that part of the world:
Blue Marlin in Lombok opereate a small liveaboard that goes to Komodo year round. I've done 2 trips with them. The boat is nice enough and very reasonable price wise. The divng in Lombok is not bad, very good for deep stuff. Simon is a very experienced CCR Evo/Inspo diver and a friendly guy.
My favorite liveaboard is the Golden Dawn in PNG. The Capt./owner Craig de Wit is also a very experienced CCR diver. The fish life in PNG can't be beat and depending on your itinerary, there's plenty of WW2 ship and plane wrecks. GD is a beautiful boat that has active stabilizers and the best food I've had on vacation.
I've also been to the Phillipines, fish life not so great, excellent wrecks, no CCR friendly liveaboards to my knowledge. Dive Tulagi in the Solomons may be the place I go next, no liveaboard, but Rebreather friendly, lots of wrecks excellent fish life, cheaper airfare than PNG.
MV Trident in Thailand is also CCR friendly-apparently they even have booster pumps!-mostly wreck diving, might try to go there over Christmas...
You seem to do some of the same type of diving as I do. You can PM me if you want more info, I've looked into a lot of Pacific destinations and traveled a lot with my CCR... -Andy

Gil

Are you still planning on diving in Indonesia in 2007. I am currently planning a trip to Lembeh and Banuken and maybe Raj Ampat in Feb 2007. Maybe we can compare notes and plans. Feel free to email me direct john@katerenchuk.net

Hi Gill,

I used my rebreather in Lembeh resort last year. Danny from Murex can arrange it for you. He can supply you with 3L tanks and bailout if you require them. I brought my own sorb with me last year and the customs can be sticky. I have Jeremy Barnes to thank for helping me out with customs. If you do not want to bring your own sorb, Danny can supply them to you.

Lembeh does not have a booster pump so all your O2 requirements are brought over from Murex, filled to 200bars. But that should not be a problem as Murex can bring them over every 2 to 3 days.

The price is your O2 requirements, tank rentals and sorb plus the cost of a normal air dive.

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Derek

thanks Derek, lembeh and murex are on my list. i have also put together a little email that i sent around to every resort i could find to see if anyone is willing to supply al 80's for trans-filling o2 and dilluent, an extra boat for unlimited bottome time and sorb. I have found one place that is very accomodating and in a rather remote location and very reasonably priced. I'll post the details once it all comes together and is booked.

Hi Gill,

This is very interesting. Is it in Indonesia? Let me know the details. I am in Vancouver right now but will be leaving for Seoul, Korea in a few hours time. Talk to you again when I get there.

yeah, i'm talkin' north selewesy. it just dawned on me one day that hey, if i offered to do all the trans filling and didn't expect them to have rebreather knowledgable staff around...was basically willing to be very self reliant...that might just open up a lot of possibilities... the owner got it and was fine with hooking me up with the tanks. As i said, we are still working on the details, haven't even decided on a specific date, plan on going sometime in the fall of 07 so i'm not in a big hurry. I don't want to blow it so i'm not going to publically list the operation. but i'd recommend asking around in the same veign and see who is willing. if you want, PM me and i'll contact them and see if they are wanting to jump in the game sooner than later.

Re: recomendations for CCR diving in selawesy?

Hi Gill, I may be interested in such a trip, although lately I've been hearing that there's a serious lack of big stuff in Sulawesi...

Another 07 fall trip I'm considering is Sept 26-Oct 5th on MV Golden Dawn in Northern PNG. It goes from Wewak to Madang and includes the almost never dived Hansa Bay, the site of a huge air attack on a Japanese cargo fleet. There are apparently quite a few wrecks all in air dil depths. Madang harbor was the site of the last large previously unknown fish discovery, a kind of nocturnal Bamboo shark 3+ft long. And there's lots of shark activity in Northern PNG. -Andy
