| RBW Member Current Rebreather/s: | Rebreather Diving In Ontario, Canada I'll be in Hamilton, Ontario from the 30 July - 10 Aug and and looking to do 5 days diving in Aug. Could anyone recommend a shop or charter service that supports Rebreather and deep diving? Preferably in the Tobermory area but I'll go pretty much anywhere. Scott |

| Re: Rebreather Diving In Ontario, Canada Define deep. If you're going to be in Toby, they're not much to really see in that area. The really only deep dive in Toby is the Duffern Wall, which you could get 300+. But if you're looking to see some fresh water wrecks, then you're quite limited. Only really two worth diving and one that was sunk to drum up business. (Ariaba, and Forest City (150 max) ) For a little bit more of a drive you could head down to the Brockville area and dive the St. Lawrence. For shops in the area, here are two. http://www.gswatersports.com/index.html http://www.diversden.ca/index.html In the river you have the Jodrey (200+), Keystorm (110), Kinghorn (100) and much much more. For dive shops in the Hamilton area, you have Dan's http://www.dansdiveshop.ca/ For in the Brockville area, you have Divetech http://www.divetech.ca/ For charters in the Brockville area you have Wayne Green http://www.islanddiver.ca/ and if you come a little east you can Kingston, and either use Limestone Dive Center or Northern Dive Tech. http://dive.kingston.net/limeston.htm http://www.northerntechdiver.com/index.php Hope this helps. | Re: Rebreather Diving In Ontario, Canada Hi Scott, nice to hear you're coming this way. I would echo my friend Dave's comments about Tobermory. Not many technical wreck dive sites up there. There are a few very good technical wreck dive sites in the river near the Brockville area. The other nice thing about the place is the water temp - no thermocline!. This translates to doing a deep dive on a wreck like the Jodrey - which by the way is an excellent wreck - with bottom water temp around 70F in Jul. By the way, you could spend days diving the Jodrey. She is almost 700' long and mostly intact! She is a laker that sank in the 70s. She lays next to a wall in about 230' of water. This is definitely a great but advanced technical dive which is done in high current, right next to a very busy shipping lane. Take a look at this link for more info on great lakes wrecks - http://www.wrecksandreefs.com/newpage1.htm I'm leaving next Thu for a 4 day live-aboard going to the north channel of lake Huron to dive on the Northwind - http://www.wrecksandreefs.com/northwin.htm We're planning a 330' dive on the dufferin wall on the way back to Tobermory if the weather permits. I did a couple of dives there last year - You can find remnants of the lady Dufferin , but you'll be hard pressed to come close to anything that ressembles a ship. The wall itself however is very dramatic looking with large boulders and many vertical wall sections. Since you're new to the area and your stay is short, I would recommend that you stick to the Brockville/Kingston area. There is a nice concentration of very nice wrecks to visit and most of them within minutes of the shoreline by boat charter. Hey, you can even do sub 200' drift dives and ride the current - just for the fun of it! Andre |

| Re: Rebreather Diving In Ontario, Canada I forgot to mention - some of the deeper wrecks near the Brockville area are on the U.S. side - passports are handy Andre |

| Re: Rebreather Diving In Ontario, Canada Andre is right, I believe you'd be very disappointed with the diving in Toby. Brockville/Rockport is where you wanna go. The Jodrey will entertain you for more than a couple of dives, and then there's the Oconto which many believe to be the most challenging dive in the river. http://www.scubaq.ca/ontarioscubadiving/jodrey.htm |

| Re: Rebreather Diving In Ontario, Canada Scott: I live in Hamilton and we do a lot of our diving with Jim Herbert of Osprey Dive Charters in Lake Erie. It is a 2 Hr drive from Hamilton. Wrecks are anywhere from 80-200 ft. and some are quite nice. great capitain and boat to dive with. Jeff |
