| Truk Lagoon CCR Cylinders & Chemical I have some rebreather equipment at the Blue Lagoon Resort in Chuuk Truk Lagoon, that I would like to share with the RBW community. The equipment is owned by myself, but entrusted to the dive shop at the Blue Lagoon for use by traveling ccr divers to ease the burden of weight in travel especially with the declining luggage allowances. I have asked the resort to charge a nominal fee for use that will help the resort cover storage and rinsing, etc. but it will not cover damage or neglect so please be responsible. Also it does not cover the expense of gas, last year divers used the cylinders and left them empty? Gas is expensive in Truk and one of the reasons that rebreathers make such good tools- be polite and pay for what you use. Chemical is also available, but this product is purchased in advance by paying me and I contact the resort to release it to the diver, full kegs only no partial keg sales. Please PM me in advance of your trip so I can communicate your needs to the resort. Please also respect the equipment, as I returned this season to find most of my bail out cylinders empty and one was flooded please treat this equipment as it was your own or nobody will get to enjoy these benefits. As of this date April 5, 2006 inventory is as follows: Chemical 10 - 22k kegs of 4-8 Molecular Products Sofnolime 14 - 22k kegs of 8-12 Moleclar Products Sofnolime 4 - 37lb pails of 6-12 Grace Sodasorb 1 - 37lb pail of 4-8 Grace Sodasorb Gas 1 - apx. 200 Cu. Ft. / 2400 psi cylinder of Helium Cylinders 12 - 30 cu. ft. Aluminum stage bottles with DIN Pro valve Right Hand ( last filled Trimix) 12 19 cu. ft Aluminum stage bottle with DIN Pro Valve Right Hand (last filled with Oxygen) *All stage straps have been removed 2 19 cu. ft. Aluminum O2 cylinder with Left Hand DIN Modular Pro valve 3 19 cu. ft. Aluminum Dil cylinder with Right Hand DIN valve 1 19 cu. ft. Steel O2 cylinder with Left Hand DIN Modular Pro valve 1 19 cu. ft Steel Dil cylinder with Right Hand DIN valve 7 3 Ltr. Steel Inspiration DIL cylinder 7 3 Ltr. Steel Inspiration Oxygen cylinders Note; after this last trip I sent home over a dozen cylinders due to past abuse from divers who drained cylinders of gas and did not rinse cylinders before they were stored. All stage straps were taken off due to past abuse; I mean seriously I left the gear for two seasons and it was trashed! People if you respect this equipment I will leave it for you and others to use again, if not its all going away . Please feel free to PM me if you would like to use any of the equipment, or purchase any chemical as I need to contact the dive shop and approve all use. Advanced notice is required, everything takes time on this island - no quick answers and I want to be sure that you get the correct items. Suggestions to bring; Stage straps, bungies snoopy loops, gas analyzer He / O2, DIN regulator with whip for ease of gas analyzing, spare parts, tools, Left Hand DIN valves, relaxed attitude Enjoy Ron Benson / Deep Thought Going Under DiveCenter |

Please pay the Blue Lagoon dive shop a $15 donation per cylinder used to help them take care of the equipment that I have donated for use by rebreather divers worldwide. I don't want to pull the plug on this deal and need your cooperation. If the fee is unreasonable - bring your own cylinders! thanks ron Below is an email from the Blue Lagoon on recent ccr divers Ron, Thank you and we will prepare all of these cylinders for their arrival. How much did you instructed them they will pay for the handling charges. Last time I remember you mentioned about $ 15.00 per cylinder. To let you know that other guest who dive with the (resort deleted) he came and paid only for the keg of softnolime. As he said to Isiro he was only instructed for the keg to pay $ 20.00 each not include the cylinder, so meaning to say we did collect any handling charges to him. Thank you. Eric |

Eric cheers gareth bellamy, I hope the above quote is not referenced to us, as Pete Mesley paid the donation for the cylinders, in fact 20 for handling the sorb and 20 for handling the tanks for each of us ($40x3)

| Re: Truk Lagoon CCR Cylinders & Chemical For the safety of the RBW community, and peace of mind I am going to pull the plug on the cylinders available at Blue Lagoon until further notice. Recently I received an email from Eric the dive center manager that a cylinder "Exploded"...and cracked a valve, and had a valve seize up??? Two years ago when I ran a group trip with Advanced Diver magazine, we had a diver with half a cylinder full of water from source unknown? Although I verified that the hyper filters were dry, 1.5 liters of water in a cylinder is considerable. When I arrived with our group the cylinders had been abused from unknown sources? Chuuk is a fantastic place to dive, great people, great shipwrecks, artifacts, gnarly penetrations...but unfortunately I think that CCR resources are a bit ahead of the times. For all who have asked: the chemical has all been used and I do not have any stocks remaining. For your own peace of mind I would suggest carrying your own cylinders until further notice. Regards Ron |

| Annoying fish since 1992 Current Rebreather/s: | Re: Truk Lagoon CCR Cylinders & Chemical I too would like to add my thanks to Ron. I visited Truk in Dec 2006 (exactly a year ago this week in fact) and, by prior arrangement with Ron, was able to buy some sorb and rent some 3L tanks. It was a great relief not to have to carry it with me. I'd like to go back to Truk/Chuuk again sometime in the future to catch the wrecks I missed last time (too many wrecks, too little time). In future it looks like I will have to ship tanks and sorb ahead of time if I wish to dive CC there. Thanks again Ron. |
