| Diving in Yap? All, I don't even have the Rebreather yet, but I'm already planning some travel with it. Granted it's in 2008, so I should have time to get my act together. Can anyone tell me anything about Rebreather diving in Yap? A group of us are headed off to Truk Lagoon, and since we're that far afield already we thought a second stop was in order. Is there an operator in Yap anyone could recommend? Can we get bottles and/or sorb there? If not, should we plan to ship supplies in or carry them with us on the plane? Any information or advice that you have would be much appreciated. TIA, Brian

| Re: Diving in Yap? I went with a Inspiration and Prism CCR group a year ago. We shipped in a couple of pails of lime, brought our own booster and they secured a large aviation cylinder of 02. We stayed at the Manta Ray Bay Hotel. We all had a great time, the owner, manager, the photogaphy woman, the guides, the boat and gear crews were all a bunch of great guys. Mike Veitch somewhere floating around this forum is their new photo guy, so you might want to get him to talk to management about assisting in getting some lime and 02 in. We shipped in our spare bottles, but make sure you ship them well in advance. The people of Yap are really friendly and the island is beautiful, make sure you do the cultural tour thing.....speaking of friendly and accomodating, one of the hotel boat crew guys hear me asking about coconut crabs and he said he had to drive into his village area and home and a guy there had a coconut crab there that they fatten up before eating so I hopped in the pickup truck and went for a ncie drive with an Islander and got to hang out and see that crab that was straight out of the movie Alien. At Manta Ray Bay Hotel they have a small basketball hoop out in the front parking lot and it was fun playing with the kids and challenging them.....they got a big kick out of it when I made a basket when defended by them and I deadpan taunted them with "Nothing But Net", and when they would miss I would diss them and say; "You're No Shaq". If you don't bring a videocam make sure you dive with Mike and he'll spark you up with either a group DVD or a custom DVD. |

| Re: Diving in Yap? Have not dove in Yap on Rebreather, but spent a week there this Chinese New Year diving OC (no comment). I strongly second the reco for Manta Ray Bay. The whole team is great. Mike is a really good guy, and shoots a very nice DVD as well. The boat-crews and dive guides are all very helpful and know there stuff. Can't help on the lime and other necessities, but contact Mike and he'll put you in touch with someone there who'll help. However, you should start WAY in advance, as sometimes the communication gets a little dicey, and you need to double and triple check everything with them. So jealous, would love to go back about now ![]() Cheers |

| Re: Diving in Yap? Thank you all for the information. It will be helpful as we try to figure all this out. Although I think that the worst part is going to be waiting from now until '08 when we go. ![]() Brian
