I've read some of the guide books and websites but it would be nice to hear some RBW first hand accounts. Scubagrunt, have a great holiday and write a trip report when you get back. ![]() |

| Re: Chuuk Lagoon what sites to dive? The two wrecks I liked the most were the Fujikawa Maru and the San Francisco. The Fujikawa is an awesome wreck for photography with a realy neat workshop off of the engine room. The San Fran is a deep wreck (180 or so in the forward hold). It has three WWII Japanese tanks sitting on deck. Very picturesqe. I did my trip on the Odyssey. Len and Kara are terrific people and run an outstanding operation. http://www.rebreatherworld.com/image...es/biggrin.gif |

On a between dive break, the local fishermen showed me their large collection of munitions salvaged from the wrecks. They apparently scrape out the contents and use it for explosive fishing. Hope no divers are in the water when they do that...

I was diving doubles and Lenny guided me through the forward hold. The San Fran was not originally on our schedule, but I requested that we dive it. Who did you do your trip with? I was on the Odyssey.![]() Apparently it is very unstable and is about to collapse (never mind all the mines sitting there waiting to explode) so watch out. | Re: Chuuk Lagoon what sites to dive? I liked the Fujikawa Maru as well. If possible, get hold of a copy of WWII Wrecks of Truk Lagoon by Dan Bailey and/or Hailstorm Over Truk Lagoon by Klaus Lindeman- both are great references for the wrecks there. Lindeman also published a dive guide to the wrecks of Truk- it's a companion to the book. THe dive guide is out of print, but I managed to find a copy about 18 months ago (I can't remember where I found it though). I was also on Odyssey, and while I can't say enough good things about the accomodations and crew- I had a decidedly different experience with Lenny and Kara (the owner/captains). My impression of them was unfavorable enough that I wouldn't recommend their operation. Heather

You end up with half the dive as a day dive and half as a night dive when you see the fish change shift when it gets dark and the night fish come out - its like being on 2 different wrecks. some pics here- http://drmike.smugmug.com/gallery/656334/1/28209350
