Question Sorb and O2 in Vanuatu?

Hi All!

I'm looking into a trip to Vanuatu in late May, and would like any recommendations regarding O2 fills and sorb. I will be based out of Port Vila, but may travel north to Santo to dive the Coolidge...

Any input would be great!!

Thanks,

-Jesse-

Re: Sorb and O2 in Vanuatu?

Sorb and O2 is available in Santo for diving the "Coolidge" at Aquamarine.

Barry has at this stage only a limited supply, so it probally needs to be arranged in advance. O2 is not an issue, but pressures are usually around 140/150 bar but the quality has been great 99%+

I have been there twice this year already teaching courses, and probally will go back at least twice more

As for Villa, hmmm, I have not had the chance to CCR there yet, but if you check out Dr Richard Harris (Harry) web page it may give you some ideas. I was supposed to be going to the Digital Photo comp on Hide-a-way Island in May, but CCR courses may get in my way.

Harry's site is www.divedoc.net
and Aquamarine's site is www.aquamarinesanto.com

Re: Sorb and O2 in Vanuatu?

G'day Jesse,
Read my report,it will paint a picture for you
http://www.rebreatherworld.com/trip-...-paradise.html
Best to send the tanks & sorb 2months ahead of time to make sure it gets there unless your flying Virgin from Australia, your scuba kit is regarded as only 5kg out of the 20kg baggage allowance. O2 is very expensive & can be filled at a Gas supplier in Town, stand well back when they fill but better still just run
On Santo they are more savy & set up. Barry Holland is the man to contact having dived with Dr Harry(KISS breather) for last two years over there.

Re: Sorb and O2 in Vanuatu?

Thankyou for your suggestions! I am actually planning to go to the Dive & Photo Festival at Hideaway... should be fun. I also did read the Vanuatu report after I posted my question, and it's very informative.

Thanks again!

Re: Sorb and O2 in Vanuatu?

Scuttle,
Sounds like you had a really nasty response to your request to dive the KISS... it's great to hear you were able to calm the managers' anxieties, but perhaps pressure applied in the form of NUMBERS of divers would 'grease the wheels', so to speak.

I've emailed Harry and am looking forward to his response. Hopefully in the two months I have something can be arranged.

If anyone else is going, perhaps we could join forces... Jason?

No Not really nasty, they were just uninformed & in the end were thinking of supplying the 3 litre tanks & sorb for those that followed. So you may be lucky there if they have.

Have fun, guys

Jason,

Did you go last year ?

I help run the event with Barry / Belinda and Rod, been there for 4 years in a row... I am tossing up taking the Rebreather as well.... As far as I know they do not have O2 there on the Island, but I am sure it could be arranged!

Nope, this would be my first year....IF I go. So far I only have one of my instructors and One customer going from here, so they may be able to take some sorb in even if I did not go.

Who is running the diving now at Hideaway? is it John and Margret?
