Re: Truk Lagoon Trip March 8-20th

Hi Guys & Girls,

Some help & advice please .... My mate Rob & I are off to Truk in April with a group who are all OC - as CCR leppers we have been left to our own devices logistically. We are diving MEGS. We are diving off Odyssey can anyone help / advise with the following?
  • Sodasorb is available at 6-12 size - sounds positively marble sized compared to Sofnalime 1.5-2.0 - is this a cock up and if so would 0.6 - 1.2 do the job?
  • O2 is available 'up to 93%' - I'm sure I can cal the Meg using this (will check when home) who has dived with 93% and can we expect any anomolies?
  • If the Sodasorb is 6-12 ...... Rob & I will ship it, has anyone shipped to Truk - who did you use & what did it cost for how much weight & size?
  • We are limited to 40kgs re the prop flight and 'excess will not be allowed' - how tight are the authorities in Truk etc on this.
  • What else have I forgotten.
Cheers all.

I am sure that Ron from Goingunder Dive Center would give you some input. He has been there several times and knows what all the issues are. The information on how to get in contact with him is on this thread.

Have a good trip!!!!!

go to the web site and Call Cliff Norton He is in America and takes care of all shipping and questions. I know they get a container every 3 weeks. Things change day to day, so what was good yesterday might not be good tomorrow! As far as Truk authorities, depends on mood sometimes its a walk in the park other times a strip search Ken and Kara (owner operators) are top notch and you will have a blast. Tell em Marty & Tina Stinky Divers say hello

I like the 6-12 sodasorb over the 812 but its a but dustier..
If you actually look at the range of sizes and the way its graded, 812 is a bit misleading... there are particles bigger than the 8 mesh.. I'd say the 612 does look slighly coarser (overall) than the 812, but it also has more of the finer sized particles as well.. The 812 seems to have most of its particles at the larger end of its range..

93% OXGYEN is no big deal, but should have been discussed in your training.. Remember about 4.5% of that is Argon, as time goes on your narcosis will rise unless you do something about it, your END can be consideably deeper than you expect.. The effect of the contamination gets lessened as you go deeper (assuming air diluent).

Re: Advice on Diving in Truk

Get in touch with Ron Benson (Deep Thought). I helped him last year with getting stage/rebreather/absorbent/helium shipped to Truk. We now have on the water to Truk 24 more stages and a pallet of 408 and 812 Sofnolime. We left plenty of Sofnolime from last years trip plus all our cylinders. We are getting a large pile of equipment there so we do not need to travel with Sofnolime or cylinders.
