Dive Boat Chen Samud sank at the coast of Thailand

I just read it on the net, that a Chen Samud named diveboat sunk approximately 30 km from the coast of Koh Tao, due to bad weather. According to the news the captain of the boat wanted to turn around but the person organizing the trip ordered (!!!!????) him to keep on going towards the wreck of the HTMS Pangan. the boat sank so fast that the tech divers on board slightly had enough time to manage to jump in the rescue raft/boat. All the dive equipment onboard has been lost to the sea. Lamar Bennington the editor of CDNN stated that if what the captain says is true than someone deliberately overrode the decision of the captain, which he wasn't supposed to do, only keeping the finnancial part of the trip in mind. (IMHO, might be the captain is trying to blame someone for his bad decision!?) Does anyone know anything about this? I hope the article is not outdated though. It had todays date on the top of the page. I intentionally left the names out of the article knowing that media sometimes deviating from the true/known facts in order to sell more of their newspaper.

Oh no, you didn't say CDNN did you?

Shame about the boat but source is dodgy as hell.

Re: Dive Boat Chen Samud sank at the coast of Thailand

Sorry, I just realized it on my own, by reading the report on the recent cave diving death, and they state that the diver was on OC, never mentioning anything about the rebreather. Actually I read it on one of the Hungarian websites than posted and than went to CDNN. I should have done it other way around. That is why I left out the names.

Apologies

Roland

There was a thread on scubaboard about this 2 weeks ago. It got a little heated and I just went to search it for you but the thread has disappeared

"CDNN... if...true"

Have you checked what The Onion, The Weekly World News, or other reputable news outlets have had to say?

I don't doubt the basics. A boat with divers on it sunk. The rest is anybody's guess.

I know the story.

A Koh Tao dive centre rented an old wooden fishing boat to try to reach a wreck 28nm off shore. they sank, no injuries as they were at least smart enough to take a RIB too.

It was bad judgment for sure and they are lucky to be alive and there is no love lost between this wannabe tech dive centre and our operation.

on the other hand the CDNN report is mostly hearsay. they seem to hate anything to do with Thailand and especially wreck diving.

i've been called a rapist , a grave robber, a pirate and the best one 'dive industry kingpin ' in the last couple of years, didn't get a mug shot though, although my mate Richie K did.

i think we should take any CDNN reorts with a pinch of salt, and have a good laugh.

they have no credibilty , which i heard is like virginity, once it's gone, it's gone forever!

Hey Jamie,

You forgot to mention they were the good things they had to say about you!!!

Not to mention being the founding member of the "Curator for Underwater National Treasures"

I still say you should make the Tee shirt!!!! I'll take 2 please.

Hope you and the boys are doing alright.

Regards,

Lance
