Bikini Atoll: Want to reopen - feedback please

Hello everyone I would like some feedback regarding the reopening of the Bikini Atoll.

I sent Jack a proposal last week to reopen Bikini Atoll. This plan includes using a live-aboard to get from Majuro to Bikini. The price would increase a little over twice of what the current price is however you get two additional days on Bikini plus 4-6 days of diving off of the live-aboard. The price would include all drinks and food. We would stock rebreathers and there consumables on the island. Additionally we would stock rebreather parts, tanks, and sensors for most of the different models so you do not have to ship them. Our cost would be less then you buying and shipping it 2-3 months before your trip and hoping that it arrives before you do.

Is this a trip that divers and rebreather divers would be willing to take, two weeks more diving plus more money?

How much is the "a little over twice of what the current price is"?

Now we are talking, but have you considered adding Kwajalein to the schedule. There's more wrecks there than in Truk and to top it off the Prinz Eugen is just sitting there waiting to be dived.

I would be up for bringing a group from Oz if Kwajalein is included.

First regarding the price we have a best guess however we are waiting on putting the whole thing together and depending on the concessions paid to Bikini Atoll will help determine the price. Sorry about the political answer but we are just on step one of one hundred.

Our plan is to leave Majuro Monday arrive in Kwajalein Tuesday morning dive the Prinz Eugen and others 1-2 days leave Tue/Wednesday arrive Bikini next morning. Arrive in Bikini at 6-7 am and start your diving at 8 am. Wednesday to Wednesday or Thursday to Thursday 16 dives / 8 days of diving no worries about flying. Wednesday or Thursday night leave Bikini and live-aboard trip on the way back diving 2-5 times a day. Arrive back in Majuro Sunday night or Monday Morning. Still in planning but this is our current plan.

Our goal is to take over the operation and make this a weekly trip to the Bikini replacing Air Marshall Island. We are looking for strong feedback to show the viability of our operation. We want to grow the size of the operation, add new accommodations and make it a world class trip. Again, we are in the planning stages hoping to get this contract but before we spend very large sums of money we want to know if this is a rebreather friendly destination that we will fill the trips with OC and CCR divers.

All sounds good, what vessel are you thinking of using ???

I tried to get this same thing organised as a one off with the MV Oleanda but it just got to hard.

I must admit though the Oleanda was a great boat and I would without doubt recommend her if she still plies thoses waters.

I've never been to Bikini but it is on my list.

What you sugest sounds truly like a trip of a lifetime and I could fill a boat once every couple of years (Already do this on the Odyssey in Truk)

I've stayed away in the past due to very bad feedback about the diving that is allowed by the dive operators.

I read that there is no penetration on first trip, and only penetration on second trip there if you are full cave (that advanced wreck counted for nothing).

WIll these limitations apply?

Sounds really great, makes me glad I've waited to go as the previous logistics and restrictions were too daunting. Thanks for the info Kravediver.

Are you aware of the other proposed Majuro-Bikini liveaboard trip recently posted here on RBW?

I'm very interested, ideas on the first trip would be nice, as I'm in negotiation stages for my mandatory 10 weeks extra leave next year... (gotta love Aussie work ethics)
